So I got a rolled carpet to put in the back, which is already carpeted. Am I missing something?

It's like a floor mat for the cargo area.

So the part where you turn the knobs to access the hidden area?

    Apparently.
Your floors are carpeted, yet you have carpeted floor mats, right?
Same thing. Just like the floor mats under your feet, the cargo mat is a removable/replaceable piece of protection for the other carpet that can't be so easily replaced.
Personally, I'll be replacing all my mats and cargo mat with rubber all weather ones.

I specifically went down to the US to pick up a carpeted cargo mat (Canada only sells the rubber cargo liner). I wanted a carpeted mat to help with some sound absorption (not much given how thin it is but better than nothing) as well as a mat to protect the original carpeting (easy to replace a mat than the floor) and I don't carry dirty/wet items often so that's why I forgoed the cargo liner.

Besides, if it's dirty, it can go in the underfloor bin and that's removeable.

Is the underfloor bin in your Prius plastic lined? I love it, but I put a couple of things down there and they slide all around. I can hear it while driving.

i put some towels in there in my 08. kept things from moving and absorbed what ever sound they did make.

No, it's just bare plastic. I have my driver's side carpet mat (cause the dealer won't let you put the AS mat on top of it after all SUA fiasco) so that helps with some traction.

Go to a Home Depot or whatever and get the cupboard liner (it comes in a roll and you can choose your colour) or get the tool box liner from, for example, Sears. Cut a piece to fit and lay it in there. Unless you are cornering so hard wheels lift things won't slide. I also put a piece on the rear hatch floor (no rubber mat or carpet mat). I folded it over underneath and put screws in the bottom such that I can force the liner mesh over the screw heads to hold it in place.

New and expensive things I buy that are in shiny boxes no longer slide back and forth bashing into the sides of the car. ;)
