    Hi all

New prius owner managed to get myself a 2006 T4 and loving it so far coming from a Honda Type R the saving in fuel are amazing especially over here where its £1.42 a litre :)

Today while going to the shops I got my bag from the back on drivers side closed the door and locked the car to hear a groaning sound from the back right door sounded like a motor of some description. Now the door wont open from the inside or the outside.

When I lock and unlock the car it does sound like the lock is doing its thing just unable to open the door. Does this sound like the actuator has gone and if so I take it will be an epic pain in the bum to sort as the door does not open.

    Thanks

Welcome to PC from a fellow Britt. IT does sound like the actuator but perhaps not as the door does not open from the inside it may just be a seized mechanism, but I agree it will be a pain to get the door panel off with the door locked shut.

Do you know if the child safety lock is on "this will stop the door opening from the inside", but anyway it looks like taking out the rear seat to get access to the door panel. If you need the wiring diagram let me know and I will post it. Good luck.

    John.

    Hi

I dont think the child lock was on as a couple of my buddies got in and out it recently no problem. I do not have a clue when it comes to cars so usually just take it to my local garage. I imagine it will no doubt be a good couple of hours of labour but thanks for the offer of the diagram.

I have lived with just my 3 doors on the Type R for years now so if its going to cost a fortune im sure I will make it work with other door and the boot :)

Dave try getting into the car putting it it ready then lock and unlock the doors from the drivers control on the front door switches. The extra voltage available when the car is in ready may just do the trick, worth a try.

Thanks will give this a try tomorrow morning and keeping my fingers crossed. Its into toyota tomorrow for a hybrid cooling pump or something under a recall that was never done so can get them to take a quick look as well if it doesn't open.

    Hi

Unfortunately does not appear this helped at all door still doesnt open or sound like the handles do anything at all so something definitely gone inside. The good news is Toyota today had the car in doing the recall for the water pump and a good once over and checked everything and suggested the car didn't even need a service and was immaculate and all fluids and suspension and battery perfect think they where actually surprised considering its done 120k they even gave it a wash and a hoover and all this cost me nothing. im very impressed by the way the Toyota dealer was :)

Just an update on this. After a few weeks of a new battery the door has magically decided to fix itself. Now they only thing I can think of is we hit quite a few hard bumps recently and maybe its knocked something into place or released somethings thats stuck? Either way I am a happy chap right now :) Think im going to grease all the locks with wd40 to be on the safe side.

Dave good to hear you can now use all the doors.

WD40 is great stuff but will not stay around too long. Use white spray on grease, "it come in aerosol cans" comes out as liquid spray and the solvent in it dries off to leave a white light grease good for metals and plastic.

While you have the door panels off treat the window slides to some silicon spray "again comes in aerosols" this will make the windows operate more quickly and smoothly also reduces the load on window motors and mechanism. Use this liberally on the channels inside the door and above, it is clear and dry and does not mark clothing.

Strangle I was sitting in my car outside our local village shop on friday when a delivery man with a sack truck loaded with bottled water swung the truck round to back into the shop and banged into the passengers door.

Estimate for repair of small dent and repaint £200 plus VAT, I don't think the company delivering the water are going to be pleased car hire for at leased two days to be added.

Just to underline the point made by Britprius... WD40 will actually degrease your locks. It is more of a solvent than anything else.

You'll want to use a dry graphite or lithium lube for these mechanisms. This lube will remain in place, and has less tendency to "gum up" in the long term.
