    The All-Electric 2​

    nd generation RAV4 EV : exclusive to dealers in the State of California.

    The RAV4 EV is tentatively scheduled for the third quarter of 2012 (July, August).
    ​

    Note: this will require the buyer to have a 240V charging station and thus requires the customer to pony up an average of $2,000 for the infrastructure installation at home or business.

    Danny will be creating a separate forum area for this, and this thread will be moved fairly soon to the appropriate home, but .... we are getting pretty close to the ordering time frame in a few months.

    PLEASE contact me thru email ASAP to prepare to get updates and get information when I have it, and to begin the pre-order process.

    Honestly, it's futile to ask me too many questions yet, as I don't have answers to things like pricing, leasing, tax issues and rebates etc. If you have interest in ordering this car and are in the state of CA, email me with your contact information. It's a start!

    with any luck this car will be part of coulomb's ChargePoint America project or the EV Project and the L2 EVSE will be "free". but we'll have to see.

    great to see toyota in the pure EV biz again.

    I can't understand why anyone would want an electric only SUV. Toyota should be offering a hybrid RAV4. Just my opinion...

    Agree. Unless it's not really an SUV but a front wheel drive "wagon". Perhaps the RAV frame better carries the weight of the batteries in range/weight tradeoff.

    It would be crazy to take an all electric vehicle to the ski slopes and get stuck on the trip.

    A plug in RAV with 100 mile EV range and a gas/hybrid mode would be a huge seller because people could drive their SUV on the daily commute and use no oil and then take it skiing on weekends save using oil for half the trip and get a decent 30-40 mpg for the other half, essentially giving 60-80 mpg for the 120 mile round trip ski trip on weekends.

    Awesome to hear!
    Now please get those puppies out here in the rest of the US;)

    IMO there are many more RAV4s that stay on well plowed/maintained streets than are used off road/in snow.

    Interesting that it will require a 240 volt EVSE. I wonder if it's sort of like Nissan where they seem to essentially lead people to believe it's required even though it isn't.

    Some folks get along fine w/the Leaf w/only L1 charging. That what I plan to do when (or if?) I ever get the Leaf I've been talking about...

    since Tesla is involved (they are installing their drive train/battery pack), I don't imagine it will come cheap.. Expect $55-$60K..

    And you get a spare tire! (Since it's on the tail gate) Made in the USA is cheaper right now and they have line capacity available. Wonder if there will be an exported from the USA model.

    I found a Toyota video overview. It seems to be from 2011, so it may be out of date:


    Maybe I'll see you in three years, Dianne, after the penalty period for the $1,500 California rebate on my Plug-in expires. Can't afford two new vehicles anyway!

    Toyota will officially unveil the RAV4 EV next week, an all-electric SUV that could be an important indicator of electric vehicles sales overall.
    The company earlier this week sent out a notice that it will debut the RAV4 EV on Monday May 7 at the International Electric Vehicle Symposium (EVS26) in Los Angeles, an important conference for EVs.

    The first ones way back when in 2000 were $42,000 but they did come with a sizeable tax credit. These won't be cheap either.

    I also don't expect them to have a spare tire either. I'd be pleased to see them get one, but the last ones didn't have one either.

    The reason they bring certain cars out in a small ratio is that the government requires it - for some reason. I think they are required to bring a certain amount out.

    Maybe the technology advancements will now permit the car to still hover in the 40's. No one knows yet!

    A Model X starts around 55K or so minus rebates. (Tesla reps supposedly said it's priced similarly to the S but I give it a 10% bump for the fancy door design)

    That configuration is the lower end model, gets you to 60 in about 7 secs (slightly heavier than the S) or so with a range again, comparable to the S base model of, 160 miles.

    Hmmm not sure how many takers there would be for the RAV4 if it's anywhere more than 45K.

    If you saw how many Advanced PHEV models I sold in the past 2+ months at $40K +, you'd have not typed that last sentence.

    This car is CA only, gets you intro the HOV lanes solo, gets a whopper FED tax credit of $7500 and PERHAPS a state CVRP refund of $2500. Yowzah!

    They will be standing in line for it.

    My heart belongs to hybrids, and plug ins... all hybrids... but this will be a really unique and wonderful car to sell too. No gas! It would never work for me, because it would have to be limited trips and I have no room for that complication to factor in. But, it will work for MANY with 2nd cars and minimal unplanned trips.

    Then again, they cut a huge deal a while back to have access to Tesla's intellectual property. The expense due to Tesla's input is probably already accounted for elsewhere in their books so the premium might be fairly small.

    If I could afford to own 2 cars, I would definitely love the Rav4 EV - but 100 mile range would not be enough for me, would need at least 250 or 300 mile range.

    if only there was a Rav4 PHV or Rav4 Hybrid :)
