SoCal Dealers that would disable the seatbelt warning sound?

AFAIK, you cannot disable the driver's safety belt beep, for fairly obvious legal and safety reasons. It only lasts for 15 or 20 seconds above 15 mph, so deal with it, drive slower, or wear your seatbelt.

You can turn off the passenger seatbelt beep and the backup beep.

 

You can turn it off. But my dealer wouldn't do it either. She said it was absolutely against Toyota policy or something to that effect.

There are some dealers who will do it, some for free, some may charge. But I just wanted to add that you can also do it yourself, either with:

1. A Scan Gauge II
2. An Android device + OBD2 Bluetooth module + Torque app
3. OBD2 cable and a laptop

There are many threads here about each method.

 

You can turn it off with a Scangauge. I think it changes it to three beeps. I'm in Loma Linda and could do it for you if you are ever in my area.

 

Northridge toyota wouldnt do it either. I went out and bought a $17 ODB to usb cable,

Once your terminal is connected to the ELM327 device, enter the commands shown below:
AT H1 (Headers on)
AT L1 (Line feeds on)
AT SP 6 (Set protocol to CAN 11bit/500kbps)
AT DP (show you current protocol)
AT CAF1 (enable auto formatting)
AT SH 7C0 (this tells the ELM you are wanting to talk to ECU 7C0, which is the combination meter.)

Now, at the > prompt, type: 21 ac

Should return a response with "00" at the end if reverse beep is enabled or "40" if it is disabled.

To Change...
At > prompt type 3b ac 40 to set single beep.
Send the 21 ac query command above to see the new answerback.


*************Seatbelt Beep*****************************
Now, at the > prompt, type: 21 a7

Should return a response with "co" at the end if seatbelt beep is enabled or "00" if it is disabled.

To Change...
At > prompt type 3b a7 00 to disable beep.

 

if you buckle up it goes away in a heartbeat.

 

Get a scangauge.

Getting a list of SoCal dealers willing to do it (if you can even get it) is pointless because even if a dealer caves in to a particular customer's demand, the management will put a stop to it due to legal reasons before the practice becomes widespread. It's not like generating a list of dealers willing to modify the Prius personalized settings free of charge.

I had it done by the dealer and they also disabled the rear back up beeping. I made it part of the sale terms.

 

I also had it done, for free.

I only took the car in for them to disable the reverse and seat belt beep, nothing else. When I was talking with the service adviser, I told him what I wanted and he immediately said that the seat belt beep couldn't be disabled, but the reverse beep could. So, I said that it was on the manual as a feature, and told him that it said that the dealer had to do it, I couldn't do it myself (through the settings on the screen). He said he would try to have it done and let me know. A few hours later he calls to tell me that the car is ready and that both beeps were disabled! :rockon:

Oh, BTW, I had the page of the manual where it says that it can be done by the dealer on my iPhone and showed him. But, I don't think this was necessary in order for them to get it done.

I'm not in southern California, I'm in the Central Valley. Went to the Clovis Toyota dealer, just an FYI..

 

I'd be surprised if any dealer would turn the driver's seatbelt warning off. The potential liability for the dealership and manufacturer is just too great. I can not speak for the 2010 Prius but my 2008 Lexus IS250's driver's seatbelt beep can be turned off by a series of key turns, button presses and brake pedal presses, posted widely on the web (no scangauge needed for this car).

 

Awesome! But, sucks that the dealer wasn't able to do it for you..
