Ive spent my whole morning looking for potenital prius purcahses , i really want the prius 5? 17inch rims with the projector styled headlights

has anyone put the oem 17" rims on a normal 3rd gen prius?

i see normal prius going for about 20 thousand , than i see the Prius 5 with the 17 inch rims and there going for about 25 thousand

leather isnt a deal breaker and neither is navi but i want the prius 5 styling on the normal III OR III

i actually would like to know if theres a photo thread of the prius besides the owners album.. my budget leans towards a normal prius or a navi prius if i go private seller but i cant afford the prius upper trim level , overall i want the exterior to resemble the upper trim and in my hope , the 17 inch rim make the car

17" wheels should fit. The issue would be the width of the wheel...I would think.

Dannytech, I have the same problem (dilemma). We bought a new Gen III 3 model and although we love the car, I (my wife doesn't care) can't stand the OEM wheels. They look smallish for the car and don't fill the space nicely. I am looking a lot at Discount Tires.com. they have wheel and tire combination from about $600.00 all the way up to 1,200.00. Include the tires and wheel already mounted and shipped to you. Make sure the tire are 217-45-17 and the offset should be +40mm. Final note: you will lose about 1-2MPG with these tires, but handling will improve. I hope this helps. Good luck.

let me know in the future what you end up going with, id like it to sit nicely on 17s , as for the interior id really like navi in it but it wont be the deal breaker

Dannytech, I know what you mean about research on this topic. I just bought a 2012 3rd Gen trim 3 and would like to change up to 17" wheels. I called dealer to get price on the same rims & tires on the trim 5 model in hopes it'll keep the same mpg as the advertised mpg on the trim 5 with 17" wheels. I understand that the rims & tires on the trim 5 have been specifically designed for the Prius 3rd gen model.

If anyone has info about this I'd be very thankful for your input.

    Thanks in advance,
    My ulna

The cost you will pay the dealer for a set of the OE 17" wheels and tires will be astronomical and the higher mpg the tires offer is a false economy. You can buy a set of aftermarket wheels and good LRR tires for much less money. While the fuel economy may be slightly less with the non-OE tires, the aftermarket tires will be better in almost every other way and they are less expensive and last longer. So in the end you get slightly less fuel economy but you will spend less.

The other option is to buy a set of used OE 17s like AZgeek is selling and put a set of Ecopia EP422 tires on them. That will get you close to the OE mpg of the Five. Keep in mind, that even the Five gets less mpg than a Four, Three or Two equipped with 15" wheels. The 17" tires are simply no match for the 15" tires. :)
