At Tesla's battery price for 100 miles the RAV4 has $14285.71 worth of batteries. Range is not cheap.

If you want to go cheap install 25 12v lead-acid batteries but don't expect any cargo or much passenger space.

    After $7,500 tax credit, it'll be $43k.

See cwernda's post he posted two links both have the price listed as $49,800

The current Rav4 Sport does not have a spare tire on the rear door. The Rav4 EV does not have a spare on the rear door either, you can see photos in links in cwernda's post.

    $49,800 + $810 shipping charge = $50,610

$49,800 was the price they gave out at the press conference today. The big-wig from Toyota told me that the cars will go on sale in late summer but then added "within the next 90 days" but that could just mean the order system opens up. It will have 100 mile range, and a 0-60 time of 7 seconds. They said ride comfort and handling were better than the standard V6 RAV.

It will be for sale via "select Dealers" in California and at the press conference they said they would make 3,000 over the next 3 years.

Tesla also had a Model S on display near the ride and drive. It looked smaller than I expected, it seemed about the same size as the Honda Clarity. The guy from Tesla said that first deliveries would start in July but they are sold out through the end of 2013.

There are a number of people on here who are interested in the RAV4 - especially in CA - where it looks like it's going. So I see no problem with leaving the thread here. It's clear in the title what the thread is about, so people who are interested can check into the topic.

    Dianne,

Any idea if in the lease the lessee will be required to keep the car in California? Has Toyota put language restricting geography in other leases that you know of?

Will it not be offered for sale? Could it be sold second hand out of California?

they cant prevent you from moving. now for the initial leasing process, you might have to provide a CA addy, but someone here could probably help you with that.

Toyota will not provide the MSO to someone buying out of state, I am being told. And, there is the need to service it and warranty it ... and that can't be accomplished out of state either.

I don't know what to say here.

I am accepting pre-orders right now for this car but at this point in time, it's for CA buyers ONLY. Prius Chat buyers get the same savings as we did for the PLugIns ($500 off sticker) but I won't take an order from anyone who plans to register it initially out of state. Not till I have clarifications of the situation from Toyota.

I know it's going to come in three colors: white, shoreline blue, and silver. And, the old 2002 models way back when were $42,000 so this new one, ten years later with lots more technology, style, range, and safety features won't faze someone who WANTS an EV. Folks who want EV are well aware that it's expensive in comparison to other gas cars.

    Dianne
