Entune was working (somewhat) on my genIII with iPhone 4, but now nothing.
It says an application must be running on my phone.
What does that even mean?! I opened the entune app, I opened pandora.
And I get the same results whether the phone is plugged in or not.
At least before I would get pandora to work sporatically, now I get jack squat.

I've been following this thread and learning a lot about the 'features' of Entune. However I still have a couple questions:

Somewhere in the users manual is says one can show Charging Stations on the Nav. I haven't been able to find that feature.

Is it possible to delete any of the Apps? I have no need to check my Stocks while driving, but when I tried to follow the instructions, it wouldn't delete.

    Thanks,
    Tom Farr

You can restore 5.0.1 if you want to try the Bluetooth Internet connection.
I know it'd be nice if you didn't have to jump through all the hoops, but that's the facts.

You cannot restore to 5.0.1, even if you could the baseband is too new and cannot be jailbroken, not sure what source you have that says it can be, but everything I've read on Dev-Team Blog says otherwise.

I bought the same iPhone software. Could you give me more details about how you did it?

I don't want to hijack the tread, so I'll just post this link for you to read. You'll need to be on iOS 5.0.1, I just learned you can't restore to an earlier version if you upgraded. (see earlier posts)

    http://lifehacker.com/5771943/the-always-up+to+date-guide-to-jailbreaking-your-ios-device

I work in IT, so I'm used to digging in hardware and enjoy the challenge. Please read all the way through the instructions first, and PM me if you have questions. If I get a bunch of PM's, we'll start a new thread.

Yeah, you are right. I wish I could go back before the 5.1 upgrade.

Yeah, but it would be intuitive, simple to use, and work properly.

Here's the problem as I see it: the iPhone is an amazing and elegant device, one that has changed modern life forever. The Android is a good device as well, although it will forever be playing catch-up to the innovations that Apple comes up with.

So as smartphones have become sleek, simple and fast, car electronics remind me of Windows XP--it works, but it's outdated, clunky, requires far too many steps to complete a simple action.

It took me 5 minutes the other day to cancel a GPS route guidance; instead, the CANCEL button should be huge and prominently displayed whenever you're using GPS guidance.

I keep an iPod on my car all the time, with about 70GB of music and audiobooks on it; in order to use any of the Entune apps, I'd have to unplug the iPod and plug in my iPhone--which means I can't listen to any of my music or audiobooks.

And my least favorite electronics kludge--the timer buttons. Here's what they *should have* done:

    a) have TWO timer buttons--one for timer schedule #1, one for timer schedule #2. By doing this, you could tap the schedule you want and go; instead, I have to select the timer schedule I want, then make sure it gets invoked. Extremely clunky.

    b) put the hours/minutes buttons in the display and not on the console. Looks like something on a 1990s alarm clock.

I love my PHEV, but Toyota's electronics implementation in this car is pretty medocre. I give the Prius an A++ for its handling, hybrid implementation; I give it a B for its EV implementation, and I give it a C- for its electronics package.

I have a regular Prius, but this may be a work around. Plug in your iPhone as usual to the usb port and use it for the entune apps. In order to listen to your iPod get a 3.5 mm (male to male) audio cable and plug it into your Aux jack in the car and your headphone jack on the iPod. This way you can listen to your iPod thru your Aux and have the iPhone for all of the other entune info.

Here is a Retractable 3.5mm Audio Cable from monoprice.com. Buy a couple they're cheap (inexpensive).

    For only $0.85 each when QTY 50+ purchased - 2.5ft Retractable 3.5mm Audio Cable - Black | 3.5mm Audio M/M Retractable Cables

Also, if you want to be able to charge the iPod as you are driving get one of these cables and plug it into you iPod and the power outlet.

    Car Charger for all iPad®, iPhone®, and iPod® 2.1A - Black

    For only $5.37 each when QTY 50+ purchased - Car Charger for all iPad®, iPhone®, and iPod® 2.1A - Black | 2.1A Car Chargers

If you don't know anything about monoprice, they provide quality products at rock bottom prices. I have been using them for years. They are especially good for hdmi cables and TV wall mount brackets. And, NO, I am not affiliated with them.

Now you will be able to have you entunes and music/books too!

That's very interesting... I am going to try leaving the state and just use the zip code, to see if that works.

I have had both iOS and android.. at the same time.. my findings pretty much are:

1] iPhone apps typically are more stable at first release than android apps
2] iPhone never integrates correctly to ANY in-car technology system at first
3] Android integrates easier to most in-car systems and has more functions..
4] Android free included NAV App smokes iphone.
5] Android allows 3rd party SMS apps that make things a beauty.
6] iPhone has a huge amount of accessories and many more apps for things such as home automation, merchant branded apps, etc than android.
7] iPhone has better battery life than MOST android phones..
8] iPAD has many more apps for work-integration(use as dual screen on my mac, sync with iCloud, seamless exchange integration, etc) than android tabs..
9] Android allows much easier access to lower level OS level API and functions allowing for multi-function apps that actually DO something...

my point here??? each OS has its strengths over the others.... there are things i like about each and wish I could combine them!...

Just upgraded my verizon iphone 4s to 5.1.1 and there seems to be an issue with scrolling though music while connected through bluetooth. It doesn't work. Tried while the car was stopped, turned off the car and reconnected several times. The "browse" button is no longer highlighted. All functionality is restored by using the USB cable, but that defeats the whole purpose of bluetooth....

FYI it may be more iOS 5.1.1 than it is entune.. I rented a Focus for my road trip last week and upgraded my phone midway through the trip and all the sudden I couldnt operate ford SYNC correctly through bluetooth but it worked fine through USB..

I've had 4 new cars in the last 4 years. None of them had any problem with the iphone until Entune came along.
