Until you take your iPad out of the car's Bluetooth range for a bit :(

    The fix:

Toyota has had its CC off the steering wheel for at least 15 years. Exactly like my 1997 Camry.

I'll have to check to see what version of software I have running.

When I was picking up the car yesterday, the system gave a prompt that there was a software update and asked if I wanted to do the update. I clicked ok on the Nav screen and it took about 10 minutes to load. Not a problem because I was showing the sales guy all of the features on the Prius during the upload time. Honestly, he didn't tell me one thing that I already didn't know about on the car.

Yet another glowing endorsement of the value of this PC community.:)

So maybe the reason I haven't encountered any of the problems others have mentioned is because I got an update. Or maybe it's because I'm special. :D

Nope. That's not true at all, at least not for the 2012 7.1 Nav. I have yet to plug into the USB and haven't had any problems running Entune from an iPhone 4, or even the new iPad.:)

Wth does that have to do with the OP? You didn't get the Nav system, but bash it and a host of other issues to justify the bashing.

But since you hijacked, I'll bite. ALL of my Toyotas have had cruise control and ALL have had the controls on the steering column, going back to 1985. Same for a Mitsubishi Diamanti, Mazda MPV, and Honda Odyssey (former and current). So maybe it's just poor design from the Japanese. Man, they produce such sucky cars.

I don't see this as evidence of poor design (but I will point out the location of the USB port as not being of the greatest design). So I'll give you that one. :D

That USB port is kinda in a hard to reach place. It better than the early 3rd Gen where the audio jack could collect crud from it being on the bottom of the center council (no USB port on those cars). I think I will see about installing a second USB port down by the seat heater switches as I like to rest my phone under the bridge for easy reach.

As far as Toyota's cruise control stalk, I absolutely love where it is placed. Perfect for my hands to operate without looking at it.

My first impression of the cc stick behind the steering wheel was i was not impressed. i love having controls on the front of the steering wheel. even my honda crv i upgraded from had this and it's very convenient. i'd GLADLY swap out the temp buttons on the wheel for cc controls. i'm used to it now, but i don't really like it, but oh well it is what it is.

the other thing i don't like about that stick is how easy it is to smack into it when getting out of the car if you happen to accidentally leave the wheel turned so the stick is straight down. I did this the very first time I parked in my driveway when I took ownership and i almost broke the dam thing. grr

I like the location of the USB port. I plug my iPod into it, and it can just live in my console out of sight. If the port were down by the seat heater switches, I'd have to be constantly unplugging my iPod and putting it away, and then getting it out and plugging it in again.

My phone has its own proclip mount.

Great, I will try that today, I was relying on what the salesman told me. Big mistake!

Do check this thread if your iPhone fails to talk to your audio system thru the Bluetooth connection. http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii-2010-prius-audio-electronics/108965-entune-fix-7-1-nav-audio-system.html If it does work now, it wont work later  but this thread describes what the Toyota rep told me to do yesterday and it cured the issue 100%.

Funny thing on the salesman telling you stories  My sales lady asked me if I wanted her to go over this and that on my car, as she already knew I have been driving rental Prii for a few years, and I told her nah I'll figure it out :D There is so much more info on this forum that a sales person wouldn't know unless they were a regular poster here. It should almost be a requirement for Prius sales people to be a active member on this forum just to keep up with the latest on the car. The way it is now, we all know more about the car they are selling us than they do :p

Sorry for your experience about built-in NAV in Prius:D. Frankly I haven't seen any built-in NAVs in cars from Toyota & Lexus better than Garmin, TomTom, etc. yet. The "benefit" of those built-in in cars is neat, organized & looks sotisficated; other than that ... not worth at all to get that option :mod:

For the life of me, other than a profit center, I can't see the reason for Nav being installed by any car company. The money would be better spent on integration of smartphones with the likes of MotionGPS IMO.

Such integration would have made an upgrade to an eTune Prius more valuable to me, as well as better integration of iTunes....

the funny thing is that you can do a ALOT of useless stuff you shouldnt be doing while driving on the nav, mostly music related, but when you need a quick address input or something you REALLY need on the nav, you cant because of the speed lockout. you have to move to the shoulder on the highway or street to input your info, while risking getting hit by another stupid driver.
