I decided to take the Prius plunge and ordered a Prius 2 in seaglass pearl. So far, I have been getting the runaround from the dealer because he can't find any Prius 2 in that color. When I ordered the car a month ago, the sales guy said that there was one coming on the next shipment but a week later, he said that another dealer took it and sold it. The sales guy say that he will put in a factory order for me and he states that he has tried twice already but no recent shipments have that color. He said that he will keep trying to submit a factory order (he states that the dealer does this every two weeks). Does anyone know if the guy is being straight with me? He said that seaglass pearl is the most in-demand color right now and it may take up to 2 months for me to get one in that color. I'll in upstate NY if that affects anything. Thanks!

I have heard seaglass is very hard to get. A dealer is in the business of selling cars. They don't make any money in creating ways to not sell them, so I doubt they are giving you the run around.

I ordered my car in the end of March. I got a VIN number within a week of ordering it, and a month later my car arrived in Minnesota. Sounds like you are getting BS'd a bit.

Yes, that colour is very hard to find. It's what I asked for. They found one in Western Canada and two on the orders for the next shipment from Japan. With the Technology package, that is. Mine is on the way from B.C. (I hope). ;)

I saw white and black and silver in stock in Edmonton.

We were going to buy a Prius in 2 weeks when we first saw it.
It was first of March this year when gas was climbing steadily but has now dropped considerably.
We were waiting for some $$ to clear from our vast holdings.
(of course this part is bs). We were buying cash and it was coming on a certain date. We went to the dealer for the Wayne Gerdes event, snuggled up to all the salesman, it was fun. Believe me they didn't try very hard. They have Prius and it sells itself! Right. A few days after (now about 5 days 'til funds available) they wanted to get the car we wanted on the lot from another dealer. I told them do it! I'll give you $500 to confirm I'm serious but lets talk about total prices. They didn't want to do that, just ordered it, it arrived. They wouldn't even take my $500 to order/hold/confirm. My money came in, I called the dealer and told him "my finger's on the trigger, I'm coming down there". Very nice people, all of the dealership, really. Had to force the salesman to sit down and talk about the #'s.
(we wanted a 2012 Sea Glass Pearl, III, solar, 5-pce carpet set) Total for what we wanted was $28,050 MSRP. He added all the tax up and dealer costs and whatever, which is fine, came up with $29,800 out the door (OTD). I shook his hand and said thanks but I'll need 24 hours to see if I can find a better deal. Talk to you in a couple days.
15 minutes later:::I emailed 12 dealers within 200 miles of my home. Told them I wanted the above-mentioned car for $29,000 OTD, was ready to go, and call me if they can help. Got 2 offers within 20 minutes. Got 5 more in about 2 hours. Grabbed the closest one and gave them $500 over phone.
We want to buy local but couldn't. We tried.
The cars are out there. And thenumbers are more negotiable now then they were in March but mite not be mid-summer.
    DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED.

    relax - have fun

Use the Internet and email as many fleet salespeople at as many dealers in your state as possible. This will quickly give you a price floor to work with. Do not let the color affect the price. The dealer pays the same price for all colors (except Blizzard Pearl), so you shouldn't pay a dime more for Seaglass. Don't let them walk all over you; you're the one with the money.

Yup, use the great wide interwebs and call around. You can go out of your city, out of your state, or even out of your region. I just tell everybody who's getting the runaround to call Dianne Whitmire at Carson Toyota in sunny CA to see what she has, and have it shipped to NY. That's what we did to get our Sea Glass (and Winter Gray). Got exactly what we wanted and we even saved money.

Huh??? You lost me. Is that a movie or something?

I was being completely serious. There's no need to jack around with incompetent dealerships or dealerships who have their hands tied because the regional offices suck giant hairy monkey genitalia. This is 2012. We have the resources to make long distance purchases, resulting in a far better buying experience, even if it requires you to do a little legwork. :)

I never understood so many on this forum settling for what a dealer has on their lot. Why spend 25k-35k on a new car and have any compromises? Locate or wait a month for an order. Easy as pie :p

Thanks for the advice everyone. The dealer said that they are trying to place another order this week and the sales guy will call me on Thrusday to give me an update.

I think I'll just wait since I am not in a hurry and they promised me that the wait will not affect my trade-in value (I'll be driving it). They said that I should eventually get that color but it may be several weeks or several months. I am not in a hurry.

I negotiated a deal for a Sea Glass Pearl Prius Two with a local dealer contingent on them being able to do a dealer trade for the color since they didn't have one on the lot. When they came back and told me they couldn't get the trade done, I reached out via email to the other dealerships in the area asking if they could meet the negotiated OTD price with a car on their lot. I ended up buying the car the next night. The Sea Glass Pearls are out there and they're worth looking for.

I absolutely love For Your Consideration and have seen it probably a dozen times, but I didn't get the reference either.

    Exactly.
For Your Consideration is the film.
    My mistake.
The hype over possible nominees starts with the Corey Taft character (John Micheal Higgins) doing the behind the times agent with the behind the times actors. saying that there is a buzz out there on that "global internet web thing", or something of that nature.
Sorry. I've taken this way too far.
But that's the ref I thought was being used.
    Hilarious stuff though.

I'm also in Upstate NY, and ordered a Sea Glass Two in April. Was told there were none to be had in our region, so they requisitioned one from the factory. It's tentatively scheduled for delivery the first week of June. We'll see.

As Toyota is churning out Prii by the thousands, the six week wait was a little surprising to me, but fortunately I wasn't in any hurry.

There's a Sea Glass Pri II in Billings, MT where I am planning on getting my Prius. It's a haul, but we're going to make a mini-vacation of it. Or perhaps you could get it shipped!

I purchased this color and it took the dealer a few days to locate and procure one, but he got the wrong interior color that I discovered when stopping by to pickup the car. He sold it in less than 24 hours...got the right color after a few days, but said that other dealers were not willing to give up their Prius vehicles without a trade.

ok, so I call my sales guy up and he states that they have a seaglass color one coming in but it's a model 3 rather than the model 2 that I wanted. He said that he will let me know by tomorrow at 11am, what price difference we are looking at for the model 3 vs the model 2.

I was not interested in the built in navigation unit and entunes so that was the reason why I settled on the model 2. For folks who have the model 3, did you think it was worth the cost over the model 2?
