What happened to the interior storage?

I recently passed my 2006 down to my daughter and got myself a 2012. I'm very happy with it with one exception -- there is practically no interior storage! Not even map pockets in the door. Just small slots for water bottles that won't fit any steel water bottles I can find. The 2011 at least had the little compartment inside the lid of the center console. For some reason that has been eliminated. I guess this is just one of those things, but seems odd to me. Questions:

Has anybody found a steel water bottle that fits in the door?

Are there any after-market boxes that fit under the center console?

Any thing that could fit in the center in back of the console?

    Does this bug anyone else?

    Thanks!

There are still two cup holders, one in the console and on on the armrest, and a bin in the armrest, it's just a different design.

It sounds petty but I agree with the OP. I am kind of annoyed with the missing cup holders on the rear of the center console. I really liked that feature. The door-mounted cupholders are basically useless as hardly anything fits in there and anything I would want to put there will likely scratch the plastic panel. :(

There are so many other upgrades that I don't dwell on these issues but I do miss them on my old GenII. :)

Also a bit surprised at the lack of storage here as well. In particular for drinks. One of the center cup holders is in use for my iPhone as my GPS, so it leaves just one for two people.

Also the lift out box under the hatch floor is smaller, and I think the storage hole on the drivers side rear hatch area is gone.

I griped about all this when the 2010 first came out but I just bought a 2012 anyway. I guess I'll just carry less and get better mileage for it. ;)

Have you thought about a ProClip for your phone?
This is mine and it leaves my cupholder free for the morning coffee.

As to the OP... I'm not coming from an older Prius, but the only thing I kind of wish it had was better door pockets. But what it does have that my previous cars did not is that large space under the bridge, and the second glove compartment. Also, that center console is MUCH deeper than my last car.

Which model if ProClip is that? It looks like a good fit for the Prius

I miss the door pockets as well, and I'm not fond of the weird way the cup holders are configured in the console. I don't have rear-seat passengers often, but not having the cup holders at the rear of the console is weird. The depth of the console is nice, but there's no little tray inside it to hold change, etc. I also miss the little box that was under the nav in my gen 2.

I like being able to store the luggage cover in the the rear storage under the floor. That was well thought out.

The under-console storage is sort of useless for me. I have my umbrella in it since it won't fit in the non-existent door pockets.

I use a Pro Clip for my phone as well, but I have have it mounted to the vents above the nav.

Cupholders are in the armrest for rear passengers.

For the proclip you need two pieces:

    ProClip Angled Mount
    2010-2013 Toyota Prius ITEM# 854355 USD $29.99

Adjustable Holder with Tilt Swivel and Pass-Through Connector with horizontal support
    Apple iPhone 4 / 4S used with a Case ITEM# 516193 USD $79.99

What you don't see in the pic, because i didn't connect it yet, is a black iphone cable that goes to the usb inside the armrest. So the proclip mount keeps the phone charged, too.

coming from a Ford F150 and a bench seat, I miss a lot of space. I have 16.9oz water bottles in the front door panels. I use my coffee container in the forward cup holder with a paper towel to keep it from bumping around. Nothing in the other one, Access to the space below the shifter is wasted and hard to get to. I may put my phone there to charge while driving. Anything else I have in the passanger seat rear pocket, I can grab this in a moment with out taking my eyes off the road.

Great device! I just configured/ordered one. The installation PDF's were very easy to find and review prior to ordering. Should be handy for placing calls while driving since the phone keypad via the navi is disabled when driving. That's probably another topic entirely!

The driver's side underfloor compartment in the cargo area is still there.

    Congrats on the 2012!

The missing door pockets bug me, yes but practically no interior storage? No way. The Prius has one of the most number of places for storage. Yes it's less than the Gen 2 (e.g. no shelves in both gloveboxes) but it's far ahead of other vehicles (mostly European vehicles that come to mind).

There are trays to be put under the centre console from Toyota Japan.

I really like all the storage space in the Gen 2, and I make good use of it. I've yet to experience the increased power and improved handling of the Gen 3 though, so I'm not saying I wouldn't be willing to trade. Maybe when the time comes, I'll just do an engine transplant.

    maybe I should have said:

Anything >> else I need to store... I have in the passanger seat rear pocket, I can grab this in a moment with out taking my eyes off the road. Like my hand held police scanner, <<<.

Thanks... But wonder how much it intrudes on the passenger leg space for longer trips... And does it allow for rotating for landscape orientation?

Rotate it any way you want (but it may then interfere with the cup holder) and my wife hasn't made a peep about it. It angles up and towards the driver so it shouldn't inconvenience the passenger. :)

Not a dig, but just a query, why do you need to see your phone if you have bluetooth and the nav screen ?
My phone is paired and in my pocket and if someone rings me, the called Id or phone number come up on the Nav screen and I just press the off hook button on the steering wheel to answer hands-free.

    heh heh, good question.
Sometimes I want to use google maps or something that I can't do with the oem screen.
Also, i dont like to use the hands free phone all the time, call quality is not nearly as good as talking on the phone itself. And if Entune would work the way it should, I wouldn't have to keep messing with my phone, but unfortunately that is not the case. And finally, it's nice to not have to worry about my battery charge since it charges during my commutes. So ya... the proclip ends up being very useful.

I haven't tried the hands free cell phone on my P2 so far in real world.

I just would like to have two drinks available. Reminds me of chats from VW about lack of drink cups years ago in their cars.... Their response was why drink and drive....LOL

But a map pocket on the rear seat!
