I contacted several dealers for the lowest price I could get. Most were unwilling to budge. I did get one offer, which I am about to deposit on:

    2012 Prius v three
cargo mats, floor mats, mudguards, rear appliqué

    Total OTD price of $29,253

    Car, $26,828
Security etch, $259 (trying to opt out now)
    $157 document
    $43 license fee
    7% sales tax

Next lowest offer was $30,500 OTD

I think it is a good deal, right? I haven't started talking trade in yet....just securing price and car.

New 2012 Toyota Prius v Price Quote w/ MSRP, Dealer Cost & Invoice

You can refer to the above link, but I think that's a great price. I was able to get a deal that was a little better, but that was due to a personal hook up. As for the trade in value, do they have Carmax in Chicago? I've checked around, and in general, it seems like Carmax will offer more than the dealers. If you want maximum value, third party sale is the way to go.

The above post seems to state that you are getting a good deal...

In the end it is about any trade you might have. I was being screwed big time by Koons Tyson's Toyota on my trade when I was looking for a 2011 P2...

Ended up with a 2012 P2 for just $1000 more three months ago with $4000 more in the initial trade value than what Koons offered with their lies about shopping my car to the local Subaru dealership.

Take the deal on the car, and shop around if you can on the trade/sale....

I bought my Prius v three several weeks ago through Costco's auto program which means there's little negotiating with the dealer. They show you their best price that they negotiated with Costco and the buyer can take it or leave it. I don't think the price I paid was all that great, but at least I didn't have to spend all day driving around to dealers and negotiating with each one.

$27880 cost of car with alarm and the expensive floor/cargo mats.
    $30735 out the door

Included in "cost of car" above was $760 delivery charge, about $600 for local dealer advertising, and $14 fuel fee. The salesman couldn't explain exactly what the fuel fee was for. Both of the last two charges, in my view, are a "cost of doing business" and should have been included in the Costco price.

Included in the OTD price listed above was 9 percent sales tax, $150 "documentation fee," and $150 license fee. It used to be that dealers could charge hundreds of dollars for the documentation fee (added on after the buyer thought they'd already been given the final price). So, our legislature passed a law limiting the amount to $150. It's supposed to be negotiable but, in my case, the salesman wouldn't. The $150 license fee seems a bit steep as the actual cost in my state was limited to $30 by voter initiative.

All in all, I'm satisfied with the price I paid but it wasn't a real bargin.

I haven't gone in person, this is all via email.

We have high tax, too...over 8%.

So I'm guessing it is a pretty great deal. I'm pleased. Put down deposit this afternoon. The number includes everything. I got the etch removed thankfully, so my otd is $259 less!!

Looks good. I used True Car and got a price near that (a bit lower but a wash with California's higher sales tax).

Guys, I'm trying to find the dealers within 500 miles of South Carolina that will give the best price.
I have looked at the truecar pricing page and it only shows about 2500 between MSRP and cost on the camry hybrid.
However, I have seen some posts on townhall talk saying people got over 4K off MSRP.

I think Truecar must be wrong because dealers aren't losing THAT much to make a sale.

We purchased our Prius V Three with the Toyogard and floor mats only after using the internet departments of 4 dealers within 50 miles of us. It was difficult to compare apples for apples as some dealers quote you a price to get you in the door and then add on features they have already put on the vehicle like Toyoguard and Tinting. We requested OTD quotes on a Prius V Three basic no options. Received just one OTD quote that we forwarded to the other 3 dealers to make a better offer on in stock V Threes. The phone started ringing with a lot of sales pressure. One dealer (Matthews,NC) would not tell us their document fee so we counted them out since they appeared to be dishonest over the phone. They called back and said they would match the offer of the other dealer. We did not want a match we wanted a better OTD price. One local dealer's (Salisbury,NC) rep said he would call us back and email an offer in an hour. We never heard from him again. After a few days of back and forth emails and calls one dealer stood out from the other 3 by calling and discounting their OTD quote by $400. He left a message to call back ASAP. When I didn't return his call in an hour or so he called again and offered to add another $500 discount on the V Three in stock. We had no color choice just white.
We paid "Out The Door" price of $28,657 and were forced to accept the $600+ Toyoguard, $300 floor mats and $220 for color Blizzard Pearl. The dealer who had the V Three we wanted and used their internet department most effectively to get us in the door with phone calls and emails with an OTD quote was Toyota of North Charlotte, NC.
We had already prearranged financing over the internet and had a blank check. They made a better % offer on Toyota financing and we accepted it.
    Then came the trade in.
They insulted us with an offer on our trade and we spent the next few hours working back up to an acceptable trade in offer. My wife and I worked as a team as we walked out once and were called back and attempted to walk out on the trade in deal a few more times before they offered us a fair price. At one time we were ready to close the deal on the Prius V Three only and said we will drive our trade home. They recanted and said we want your trade and gave us a fair price.
The dealer rep from the Matthews, NC dealership called. We informed him we had purchased a V Three. He was upset that we didn't get "Him" and a "Lifetime Warranty" and he repeated that he had never lost a deal yet. :) :)
