An IRA is guaranteed. You put your money in for a predetermined time and it pays a predetermined percentage. They pay less then 2%. Your post about investing over paying cash was not a good example. You do not understand what an IRA is.

"Most" may be a speculation but the reality is people overpay for extended warranty to the tune of $2,500 before coming here and/or doing research.

Predicted reliability isn't considered a fact, but is very relevant in this decision. We know Toyota has consistently proven itself reliable when it comes to changing technology. As someone skilled in technical, logical and statistical problem solving, you should know you shouldn't rely only on hard facts.

There are now many breeds of IRAs that aren't guaranteed. For example, Roth IRA that lets you invest in mutual funds, etc.

Ok well my retiremnt account allows me to pick where my money goes. Ira may have been the wrong term, sorry. Point is that to take liquid capital, and dump it all into a depreciating liability ( like a car) when borrowing money is so cheap, is stupid.

As much as some on this thread would like otherwise .... A number of owners are going to purchase an extended warranty. Why not help them get the most appropriate plan and explain how to get it for the best price.

I wish I had that kind of luck! lol! Unfortunately, I'm one of those bad luck individuals who ALWAYS has things go wrong with everything he ever buys.... Thus, I learned long ago to buy the extended warranties on everything I purchase.....and have easily recouped my money a zillion times!

Oh, yeah - this is someone who clearly knows how to distinguish facts from speculation and provide sound advice based on sound analysis. This statement really underscores the depth of his knowledge. What a financial genius!

A traditional IRA pays predetermined percentage base on the time frame you invest. This is a fact. I challenge you to prove different. You clearly do not understand facts. The person that posted that admits he was wrong.

This is a traditional IRA. Enter your zip and it will tell you what percentage you can get for your term.

You are both ignorant and arrogant. An entertaining combination to be sure.

You can learn more about IRAs here:

[ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Individual_retirement_account]Individual retirement account - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

Of particular note: "...the IRA owner can direct the custodian to use the cash to purchase most types of securities, and some non security financial instruments..."

I used to be able to say my '04 Prius was repair free, but no more. At 146k miles I had to spend $15 to replace a windshield wiper nozzle that had mineral buildup causing a misdirected spray. :D

The person who posted this information didn't call it "traditional" IRA, just IRAs in general. Not all IRAs are guaranteed and based on certificates of deposit.

I agree that he did not post that it was an (original) or (traditional) IRA but that is the most common IRA out. If you go to any bank in the USA and ask for what the IRA rates are they will tell you the time period and percentage. I buy them all the time. The ROI is not good right now. I invest in my max in a Roth IRA each year also.

    So far off topic LOL

IRAs are investments that gain income tax advantages if terms are met -- mostly to do with letting the money sit until retirement (that is the 'R' in IRA.) While the governments does restrict types of investments allowed, the choices are much wider than just CDs or even fixed rate investments. E.g, most of my IRA money is invested in the stock market.

I just paid 2,000 for five years of platinum extra care coverage for a 2010 prius with 29,000 miles. I was told the cost went "way" up after 30,000 miles. Doesn't seem cheap to me. I have 30 days to withdraw this coverage....

I'm thinking of withdrawing. Will take a chance that my major repairs will come up after 5,000. What freaked me out was when he said the HUD display in the front of the dash cost 4500 to repair the computer and that there was 13 computers in the car.
