    Maybe fashion accessory was the wrong choice of words. How about customization to define your vehicles true identity? Car tuning!!!

    hey, i think they look cool! And mine is well on its way.
    But I also know that the general public laughs when they see a modded prius.
    Just sayin. ;)

    I think it would be best in this case to vinyl the remaining section of the roof black and get a black shark fin.. that would look good.

    Actually no. The general public doesn't even notice most mods.

    There's a version of shark fin designed for SR. Get that instead.

    haha, ok I was just poking fun a little with the man card comment but without getting into semantics, what I meant by "general public" was anyone not in the Prius community but still into cars. And I don't even mean just people who are like us and spend way too much time on car forums and spending money modding their car. Even people who just appreciate other cars. I've been into cars and hanging out on these forums forever it seems, and I can tell you without a doubt that the majority of all these other people would laugh at the thought of modding a Prius. Just look at all the comments in any article that talks about the Prius Plus Package. 90% of the comments are negative. Pretty much every one of my co-workers looked at me like I was crazy when I mentioned I was going to lower mine and half of them are really into cars and loved my modified Audi. Of course once they've seen it they tend to come around and admit it looks better than it did, so at least that's something. It just is what it is.

    I'm not saying I agree with these people. I love the look of a nicely modded Prius. But I'm not oblivious to the facts above, either. ;)

    I sorta like the shark fin idea, to me there all a little to big for my taste. Does anyone know where you can get a smaller version and possibly still work ok?

    @d2

    It depends where you live. For example, in Chickasaw Misissippi yeah you're going to stand out and maybe get made fun of. But in LA there's a really big car culture. Everybody modifies their car so much that it doesn't even matter what car it is. Nobody really cares. And even though you see people laugh at the idea of modifying a Prius (which I actually never have - I've only seen people "laugh" at the Prius in general), at the end of the day, nobody loses sleep over it.

    Yes this is true.

    That's a great one.:rofl:

    I have actually decided not to install the shark fin after seeing what the antenna looks like. I thought it was going to be like the Gen II antennas but was pleased to see that I don't see it as being quite as ugly. I have plans for dressing it up a bit and will post pics once I am done.

    FWIW, the mast alone is almost $90 from Toyota (for the mayday functionality). And the receiver base is $250.:eek:

    Here's mine fin from the pc/shop. Start to finish it took about 10 minutes to install. No difference in reception so far.

    I'd like to get a shark fin because it's a pain to unscrew the buggy whip antenna every time I put the car cover on.

    I bought & installed mine about 2 weeks ago. IMO, it looks good & reception is no worse or better than the stock antenna. FYI, I'm in L.A. county area.
