Recently Ive been having issues with my prius 2008 , it all started when I was driving back home and 3 lights came up randomly. They were the VSC, (!), ! With triangle. I parked the car and turned it off and turned it back on the engine would not start and the 3 lights from before came up in addition to the check engine light, the abs, the emergancy brake and anti skid, and then the red car with ! Came up on the navigation screen. I had to unplug the startup battery and pluged it back in. it started and was fine for about a day. Cant run any tests until it happens again. We had the 12V battery checked and it is just fine. Any ideas?

A mechanic with a battery tester...
He said that it was reading over 12.6.
And the toyota dealer said that they would charge 189 dillars for a dignostic.

But that was after you drove it there, right?

Let it sit overnight and run the test I pointed to...

Yes, when I unplugged the battery it turned on with no lights at all but it does it again when you drive the car for like 25-30 miles, I'm worry that the dealer is gonna rip me off!

    1. Check the inverter coolant reservoir when the car is READY, to see if fluid turbulence exists. That shows the coolant pump is working. If you don't see turbulence, a failed pump is the problem.

    2. If a failed inverter coolant pump is not the problem, I suggest that you accept the $189 diagnostic charge. It sounds like your car has a problem with the hybrid system, and if your car has less than 60K miles logged then it should be covered by both the powertrain and hybrid system warranties. If a warranted problem is found then you should not be charged for the diagnostic time. Good luck.

You are covered under the hybrid system warranty for 8 years/100K miles. If the traction battery should fail again during that period then the replacement would be free of charge.

Did they have a hybrid battery in stock? They have been on backorder for a while.

11K is very, very early. Honda has a problem where seldom-driven cars are susceptible to battery imbalances, but I've never seen that with a Toyota.
