Can I disable the beep w/o a gauge or stealer visit?

All the searches I did only show that a scan gauge or a dealer is needed to do this. I don't have the gauge and I don't know the stealer.... yet>

I found this article but I can't get it to work:

    1. Power on the car to IG-ON or READY. IG-ON will do for this purpose.
    2. Using the Trip/ODO button, set the Trip/ODO display to ODO (not Trip A or Trip
    3. Power off the car.
    4. Now power the car to READY (brake on). This is required so that step 6 works correctly.
    5. Within 6 seconds of powering on, press and hold the Trip/ODO button for 10 seconds or more (there is no indication… just count)
    6. WHILE STILL HOLDING ODO *after* the 10 seconds, shift the “gear†selector to R, then press the P button. Now release the Trip/ODO button.
    7. If the last step was successful, “b on†or “b off†should be displayed in the location where the Trip Odometer or Odometer is normally displayed (front dash area). “b on†is beep on (default), and “b off†is beep off.
    8. Press Trip/ODO to toggle the mode.
    9. Now power the car off to exit the toggle mode.
    10. Power the car on to READY and confirm the reverse beep status by shifting to R. The beep should not be audible if “b off†was selected, and should be audible if “b on†was selected.

Is it all BS or will this work? I have tried multiple times with no joy.

    Thanks in advance!

The dealer should do it for free but apparently it is their prerogative.

If you can reveal your location, I am sure there is a member near you with a Scan Gauge.

Actually, I thought you had to:
    1. Put on your best Fedora
    2. Walk counter-clockwise three times around the car to the left of your car.
    3. Roll the drivers window down 1/4 of the way, the front passenger's 1/2 way, the rear driver's 1/4, and the rear passenger's all the way.
    4. Turn the radio onto National Public Radio
    5. Shift into reverse three times whill hopping on one foot.

    Then you're done.

I just asked the dealer when I took it in for the 5k and they turned it to one beep for free. If you are doing any of the warranty work they will usually do things like this at the same time at no cost.

It can change the reverse gear in-cabin continuous beep, beep, beep to a single beep.

It's main intended function is to read engine diagnostic codes, sure it can do lots more- but you have to know the coding- which there's not alot of public info about.

Right, i got that from above. The reverse beep, and the passenger seat. But what about the driver's seat? I don't care about the passenger seat. I wish there was a list of codes somewhere.

    The device I used:

    http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...lp-disabling-reverse-beep-28.html#post1522540

What to do in the terminal mode of the software:

You need to tell the ELM which ECU you want to talk to, so type:
AT SH 7C0 (this tells the ELM you are wanting to talk to ECU 7C0, which is the combination meter.)

    *************Reverse Beep*****************************
Now, at the > prompt, type: 21 ac

Should return a response with "00" at the end if reverse beep is enabled or "40" if it is disabled.

    To Change...
At > prompt type 3b ac 40 to set single beep.
Send the 21 ac query command above to see the new answerback.

    *************Seatbelt Beep*****************************
Now, at the > prompt, type: 21 a7

Should return a response with "co" at the end if seatbelt beep is enabled or "00" if it is disabled.

    To Change...
At > prompt type 3b a7 00 to disable beep.
Send the 21 a7 query command above to see the new answerback.
