The battery might need to be charged out of the car before installing.

Yes. The Prius uses the High Voltage (HV) traction battery to power MG1. When the Prius is stationary, MG1 is used as a starter motor to "turn over" the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE). If that battery is drained too far, you will need special charging equipment to charge it back up. For most people, this means making arrangements with their local Toyota dealer to have them charge it up for you. They may not have the charging equipment on hand, and may need to transport it from some other dealership.

Are you sure the service plug is reinstalled correctly? I've seen this posted here on several occasions and that almost always turned out to be the problem. See this post (#9 and beyond) http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...-replacing-bad-cell-in-main-battery-pack.html.

I pulled the battery out of the car yesterday and checked the volts on the individual cel's. low was 1.57 high was 4.78. I knew I was having problems on cel block #7 on my old battery. so removed the tin to examine it and one of the cel's on block #7 had blown up. I replaced block #7 with two battery cel's from the battery back I took out of the wrecked prius..Car runs now, cleared all the codes, they have not come back on yet..
