New tires for Pennsylvania Gen III 2010-so confused!

I found Michelin Energy Saver A/S at Sam's Club suited me best.

but they do not seem to be on sale at your location.

 

From a mpg and cost standpoint I would go with:

1. Energy Saver A/S (if you get the $70 rebate making the tire approx. $95/ea.)
2. Yokohama AVID Ascend (T)
3. Bridgestone EP422 (if you can get the $70 rebate).

Those three tires have a similar cost/mile rate. The Ascend likely gets the worst mpg but it is rated at 85,000 miles vs. 65,000 miles and IMO is a better performing/handling tire.

Costco offers the $70 rebate for 4 tires and they rotate the Michelin and Bridgestone rebates monthly. The Energy Saver is not worth it IMO unless you get the rebate or just want bragging rights for the highest mpg.

Since you're a Costco shopper I would probably just get the Energy Saver A/S. The only drawback is I hear they howl pretty bad if you like to take corners hard. Ask The Critic about his tires.

 

Actually if you want a long-life tire, the Defender is probably your best option. Considering that it is supposed to replace the super-long-lived Hydroedge, I would expect it to last even longer.

As for fuel economy, I am averaging 9.3% higher than the OE tires with the Energy Saver A/S after 3500 miles. However, the Energy Savers are slightly worse than the OE tires in terms of traction and handling.

 

Do NOT buy Goodyear Integrities. They were the OEM tires on 04-09 Priuses. They suck (and that's the general consensus here too). You're better off spending your money on something else.

I do have 2 Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 tires on my Prius now and whem my 2 Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS tires wear out, I'll probably replace them w/2 more EP422s. I even posted about it at http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...cement-tires-current-list-24.html#post1530379.

You do not need to install anything to run the Primacy MXV4 tires. They are just a tire.

I think you'll be fine with the Energy Saver A/S. if you like cornering fast and hard then try the AVID Ascend (T). I have almost 9,000 miles on mine and they make almost no noise when pushed hard into a corner and while they are not as fuel efficient as the Energy Saver A/S, they last longer so cost per mile is close enough that it is not a big monetary difference. http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii-2010-prius-fuel-economy/105546-yokohama-avid-ascend-review.html

 

That's a no brainer just do it! That's my next tire of choice the (Energy Saver A/S).

 

Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 are my current front runner: LRR, not too expensive, readily available at Costco. We've got a long ways to go before our OEM wear out though: putting on maybe 15000 km's per year.

 

I can confirm that the mpg difference between the AVID Ascend and the Energy Saver A/S is around 2-3mpg at least. The Ascend is similar to the OE tire mpg so the Energy Saver A/S provides a nice boost. When driven moderately I didn't not ice any howling when taking corners but I have not tried pushing it hard. They were louder and more sloppy than my Ascends but that is the trade off for less mileage and better mpg I guess.

If you love playing the mpg high score game the. get the Energy Saver A/S. if you want better performance and a tire that lasts longer then get the Ascend. The Energy Saver is a bit more comfy too.
