The Wheel Covers are part of the extensive Aerodynamics research done on the Prius. I am not sure if there is definite confirmation on what the MPG penalty when the wheel covers are removed, but someone may have tried to compare the MPG with and without.

Well, I'm averaging 53+ mpg's according to my Ultragauge connected to the OBDII port without the covers. As long as I can stay above 50+ mpg's I'm happy!

Add me to the list of the $0.92 Lowe's center cap mod. :)

Mine went on the 2008 Touring 16" wheels.

hm... so I was planning this out in my head and thinking I was on board. Then I went out and looked at my wheels. Apparently 2012s have black alloys. Not what I was hoping for. :/ [IMG]

Just removed my hubcaps off bought the center caps from Lowes and kinda like the new look. Is it too much black on black on black?

Can anyone tell me where I can get silver wheel paint to touch up the marks left from the hub caps?

How do you think they'd look if they were white to match the BP?

Maybe some red caliper covers would make it look really hot?

Cheaper than a $2200 BBK from Wilwood et al. Yeah, $175 for caliper covers ain't cheap, but neither is proper brake caliper paint and all the prep if time is money. Check out the install video for the covers; looks very easy and fast. I've asked other peeps on other car forums and they tell me the install is easy (30 minutes...lol, it takes me that long to jack the car up and remove all 4 wheels) and the covers last. Of course, it's really a ricer mod but I don't give a crap what people think since it's my money and the stock brakes are decent.

I'm in the same delima - bought a used 2006 Black Prius and bought a set of OEM Wheels and tires for $300 off Craiglist. Can't decide if I should keep the covers on or not!
Too much black? Did you decide to leave yours?

Picked up a set from Home depot for $0.94 each.

Without plastic hub cap, I was able to still manage to get over 60mpg on our way to NJ (60 miles one way trip).

The black alloys work with Black and Pearl. I just took mine off on the Pearl. Not really my style but better than the plastic hubcaps. The pump boys at work all think I paid $1,000 for the bad black alloy wheels.

I would suggest springing for the shiny plastic Toyota center caps. I bought some meant for a Yaris. They are all the same, chrome looking plastic but nice and shiny. I also use the black shine on the tires. Seems to work as a package.

Left my hubcaps on for now...I wish I could find a chrome ring. I think a chrome ring on the wheels would be perfect, but with the weird size of caps needed, not sure where to look to get them.
