    Hi all,

Just got my Morimoto H11 HID kit in. Just wondering how you guys hooked up the battery plug from the harness. Any pics would be awesome, thanks in advance!

I connected the H11 harness from the ballast directly to the cars H11 harness. Did not use relay and CAN-BUS.

There is a long thread about it here http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-c-accessories-modifications/105535-led-xenon-headlight-7.html
I've got mine from morimoto too; however, I have small shaded areas because of the grounding electrode location. Lights are fine, but these shaded areas kind of annoying. What I figured out is that the location of the grounding electrode is a little bit different compared to some other bulbs I used to have before, so after I put the bulbs in, the grounding electrode is actually located at the top, and its shade flips down to the bottom of the light through my lens. See pic attached.

Yep, that's on my prius C. Sent an email to TRS and their reply was:

"Unfortunately there really isn't anything we are going to be able to do to help you with that ground shadowing problem you are having. The design of our bulbs and the way they fit into the Prius's headlights is a known problem and there unfortunately no fix for it. It is simply caused by the direction the ground wire is located on the bulb. As far as we know only the Prius and CT200H have been effected by this problem."

However, when I put these bulbs into my 2010 camry, the problem was the same. Kind of a shame, if the problem is known, but there is no disclaimer about it.

I have the same problem with my 2012. I even went as far as to put the TRS H11 bulbs in my CTS fog light & I get the sane shadow so its not just the Prius or the Lexus CT200h

That's exactly what I said to TRS. What I also said that I believe the problem is the actual location of the grounding electrode, since after the bulbs are fitted into the lights the electrode locates at the top of the lights and it just reflects and flips through the lens at 180 degrees, that's how it turns to the bottom. I have a set of cheap lights from the ebay, and the electrode location on them is completely opposite compared to what you can see on moromoto's bulbs, and I have no problem with regards to any shaded area on my ebay lights. See the attached picture (morimoto's bulb is at the right side).

Haha......I sent Matt at TRS a similar pic showing some ebay H11's vs. theirs........he said their bulbs are correct & the issue was with the Toyota projectors.

Now mind u that I have always been happy with TRS & Matt has always taken care of me but this is a issue that I have to disagree with them on & will not recommend their H11 bulbs.

  10. That's unfortunate, I thought these Morimoto kits were highly recommended by users in this forum. I know the H11 kit from Xenon Depot / KBCarstuff does not suffer from this groundwire shadow effect but they just recently raised their prices ($159-->$199) :(

TRS is highly recommended. Here & on hidplanet. It's just unfortunate that they will not do anything to resolve the issue with their H11 bulbs.......even after bring shown that its the bulb.

I think what TRS should have done is post a disclaimer about their HID bulbs on their web site. Although it is written there that you call if you have any questions which I have done, I was never told of the possible ground shadow problem with the bulbs. The return ground wire shadow problem is not just specific to toyota. It also affects other car manufacturers like ford and GM as other members have pointed out here and hidplanet. Other than that, they have excellent products and support.

Man, your words are exactly the same what I've heard from TRS with regards to Toyota projectors. BS story, $30 kit from ebay does not produce any shadowing, whatsoever. I have it on my Camry for more than a year now, and I haven't had any problem with them. Honestly speaking, I bought Morimoto's just because of all these positive feedbacks (stupid of me, that's the first and the last time I've ever done that), but it seems a total scam. They didn't even offer return in my case. I will never buy anything from them and I will never recommend their services to any of my friends.

Other than that... that's exactly right, but why do I need to spend $150 and get shadow problem??? They were trying to put everything on my Prius at the beginning, in the mean time acknowledging that they were aware of such problem, but didn't do anything about it in order to make people knows about it, and then when I said that I have the same problem on my Camry... the answer was like... oh, we didn't know anything about that... Totally disappointed with my experience.

Wow! Well, I spent $150 for the morimoto elite kit plus shipping and bought the xenonsupply bulb for $54 with shipping and my total hit was around $220.:mad::mad::mad: Just to take care of the ground wire shadow problem.

After reading all the posts on this forum about the ground wire shadow, I bought the Xenon Supply kit that specifically addresses the ground wire shadow problem. I installed everything and it works great. No shadows. The ballasts seems to be of good quality as well and the kit has received positive reviews on other forums as well. The whole kit came with 5 years hassle free replacement warranty so I'm thinking that they are willing to stand behind their product. The price was very reasonable. It's a little late now but over the memorial day weekend, you could have gotten a additional 20% off and got the whole kit delivered for $104. Unlike a lot of ebay stuff, Xenon Supply is an actual brick and mortar store in Socal so perhaps that brings a higher level of legitimacy? Only time will tell.

I would just like to update and confirm MIK1's issue. I didn't see this thread till after I bought the kit unfortunately....

the morimoto kit is a really nice kit but the dark "ground wire" shade is definitely noticeable and somewhat annoying.

Everything else about the kit is perfect.

After running with them for a week- I coughed up the $60 and bought the H11 HID's from Xenon Supply- end of ground wire shadow.
The Morimoto H11 HID's for the Prius suck!

I bought mine too without knowing the ground shadow issue after reading the post, I returned the whole kit without touching it, I got nailed for their restocking fee (25%) plus the shipping charged (suppose to be free shipping) and I have to pay the shipping to ship it back. This will be the last time dealing with them. They sucks...I look at my 2006 Sienna which have factory HID, the ground wire is at the bottom. My current Asia market Philips made H11 HID kit the ground wire is at the down 6 o'clock position and NO shadow at all. This just to warn other Prius owner 2nd thought before making purchase with TRS.
