My Prius v has 1300 miles. I didn't notice at first but now I notice a constant high frequency vibration in the car, especially at highway speeds. Took car to a tire shop and had tires dynamically balanced, same problem. I think it must be the toyo low profile tires or its in the drive train and just inherent to the hybrid system. Seems to be the same whether in eco mode or ev. Vibration is the same on smooth or rough roads. Dealer service manager says he is not aware of any problems. Suggests bring car in for a test drive and compare with another new one. Any ideas?

There appears one component in you vehicle that is "out of balance." the vibraction only occurs at a certain speed for this component. I had a 1977 Chevy small block V8 that came from the factory with a harmonic balancer in it that vibrated every time that the tach registered the engine at 2,200 rpm. I took the harmonic balancer off and took it to a special industrial balance shop on Kerney Mesa in San Diego. The found the heavy spot, drilled a hole in the harmonic balancer to lighten the heavy spot, and the vibration was gone forever.

There are various electronic and electrical components in the Prius that can generate high frequency sounds that are more noticeable to some drivers. Take the dealers offer and try another V, as close to your setup as possible, and see if it's also present.

Rive noticed the Toyo tires yield odd sounds depending on the road surface. Some loud some not so much. I would try another v with identical tires if possible at the same speed and road. I'd also make sure your tire reassure is where you want it or at least what the sticker says. W

I got a brand new Prius pkg 4 at Thanksgiving. I literally didnt leave the lot before I drove into the service dept and asked them to check the tire pressures and possibly shipping rubbers in the springs because it rode so bad. It has 17" Toyo Proxes A20s on it. Within a week the dealer replaced one tire because the radial run-out exceeded limits but I still have a very annoying vibration between 60-65 mph. The tires have since been rebalanced by two different shops but the vibation remains unchanged. After some on-line research, I find multiple similar complaints from others with Toyo tires and even the Toyo website has a reference to "the 65mph shimmy" with a 10 page explanation and possible cures. Iwent back to my salesman and drove 2 brand new standard Prius- one with 17" Toyos and one with 15" bridgestones. The Toyos shimmied at 65 mph and the 15 wheels were smooth. I am working with the dealer to get Toyota (not their fault) or Toyo to replace these tires with another brand. More unsettling is that I am finding other owners of Toyos with sidewall splits by 20,000 miles indicating probable belt shifting (gee- Iwonder why they vibrate?). This is a great safety concern for me. I would advise any potential buyers that a Prius is the best car I ever owned -on my second one- but avoid Toyo tires.

Might be worth your while to find a tire jobber that had a wheel "balance r" that balances the wheel while mounted, a visual perspective of occurring events may determine causation.
