Blistering on the inner panelling??

    I've had my prius plug-in for just about a month and yesterday I noticed a huge (about 5" blister) on the inner panell of the passinger side door. :confused: At first I thought it was just the light playing tricks but nope, it's a huge blister. I'm taking it in on Saturday. I'm sure it's covered, I got all the xtra waranty's etc but still. It's a bit annoying spending over $44k on a car and it has some manufacture defect. ;o(

    I"m not sure how to upload a pic on here but it's the inner side of the passanger door. You have the arm rest, it's on the crease of the armrest and inner soft panell.

    You said you spent over $44k, so that's on the Advanced (not a Base as listed in your profile?). So that would mean the Softex was separating from the door panel insert?

    Well from what I was told it was a base model but tricked out with everything, leather, heated seats etc except for the sunroof & advanced Nav system. The $44k is including taxes & fees and extended warranty. I think the base price was around $35k.

    Yes it's the Softex in the passengers inside door panel that's bubbling. :-/

    Sounds like you got some Frakenstein PiP. Only the advanced comes with Softex.

    PiP does not have a sunroof option.

    If you do not have the Advanced Nav, then you have a base model that someone decided to put leather in. Take it back to the dealer. This is an aftermarket addition.

    Advanced comes with Advanced Nav, fog lights, Radar Cruise Control, (even the base has heated seats I think) power drivers seat, drivers lumbar support, advanced smart phone apps.

    Yep, at $35k you paid $32k for the car, then they added in leather for $3k. Or they charged you more than sticker. I paid $44k for my advanced after Tax Title Reg etc. Out the door.

    How much did you spend on the "extra warranty"? I hope it was enough to cover the workmanship issues on your aftermarket leather. I can't imagine your dealer will cover it.

    And $44K for a $32K car with a few extras is pretty extreme, even for some of the low-life dealers we heard about during the initial launch.

    I pretty much got it covered bumper to bumper for 7 years including rips & tears, dents etc...it's covered, thats not the issue. Just the annoyance that inconvenience :-/. The car was a special order for someone that never picked it up. It has a bunch of extras in it, premium wheels, premium paint, premium leather, etc....a bunch of stuff I'd never order but it was a good deal and I'm very happy with all the bells and whistles, except the defect on the door panel hahaha

    How is spending $12k over sticker for a base
    model a 'good deal''? You got none of the advanced features like L.E.D. headlights,
    Heads up display, radar cruise control, premium nav, etc. You got fluff, it's a car dealer's dream come true. Your base model already had heated seats standard, it wasn't "tricked out" with them..
    Then You make a post complaining about your disappointments in an aftermarket door panel mod that has gone wrong.
    Even referring to the problem as a manufacturing defect!!!!.... Well dont be mistaken and don't mislead, it's NOT Toyota's fault,
    It's poor dealer aftermarket workmanship. Stop bashing the quality of the Prius Plug-in.

    And stop complaining about your gas mileage because it's those aftermarket wheels and tires that will kill MPG numbers. Now we know why your previous posts have indicated getting only 55-ish MPG in PiP! (link:#10)

    Your post should have read ' my aftermarket leather door panel is blistering'.

    Well lets see...the base price was $35,255.00 almost $2800 in taxes, 7 year extented waranty was $2395, & 7 year pre-paid for all mainttenace ( whick also covers any dings or scratches in paint or tears in leather or softek) was $1560 plus the DMV/Registration & Liscense fees come to nearly $44K ($43K and some change) I get a Ca tax refund around $1500 as well as a Fed Refund and CA Clean Vehicle Rebate (totally nearly $5k back so that offsets all the added maintenance & such.........anyayyyyyyy the point being, I was merely concerned about the blistering.

    .....dude chill gezzzzz it was just a simple post to see if this had happened to others I wasn't expecting to be attacked so aggressivly. ...btw I don't have after market wheels either and I've been averinging in the low to mid 60 mpg even hit low 70 mpg on some work commutes when I try.

    I wasn't complaining about my milage, i was simply looking for advise to how to maximize it. In a previous post you mentioned.
    I never bashed the quality of the Prius Plug-In. On the contrary I do love the car. I'm saving nearly $400/ month on gas. That makes me very happy and it more than pays for my car payment compared to what I was spending on gas with my other vehicles. I'm also aware that like any other mass manufactured product there are, now and again, slight imperfections. I've bought a couple Mercedez-Benz in the past that also needed some slight work done. It happens.

    If you do have a base with aftermarket leather I would goto the dealer about the blister and just have them fix it or sent it out to the shop who did the aftermarket work and they'll repair it. So just looking at your first post, I wouldn't be upset with Toyota due to this "manufacturing defect" since it was not them who did it but rather whoever did the aftermarket leather work.

    Also, if the car you purchased is actually a base your profile should really reflect a base model IMO and not an Advanced model.

    Thanks Paradox I did speak to the dealer and it's covered & they said it'll be repaired. They claim it wasn't an after market addition but an option that someone specialed ordered but never claimed. My prof was the base but after talking to everyone in here I thought it may actually be an advanced because of all the features. Curiosity got the best of me & looked up the window sales sticker, sure enough it's a base model with the added features mentioned. :).

    I have to question what the dealer told you. They said "an option that someone special ordered but never claimed." you cannot order leather or even softex as an option on a base so if it was ordered it was ordered and installed after the car arrived here. That's aftermarket if you ask me. I'm only saying this because I don't want the dealer to try and pull the wool over your eyes and make you think it is something it is not.

    What matters is in the end they will fix it and make it right so I'm glad to hear it'll soon be fixed. :)

    thanks :) yep that's what I was told. :-/. Even the window sticker stating the price, mpg etc was still on the window and when I reviewed it it sure enough listed those 'added' features on the sticker. Now I really don't know. I'm very happy with the car but know you make me wonder. Its a very reputable dealership (from what I've read & heard) one of my good friends are part owners in 'AutoNation' of which this dealer ia member of. He even set me up with a meeting with that locations chief sales manager. Still, from what your saying, you may be right.[/quote]

    I paid $35.7K out the door for my base model. No extended warranty, no pre-paid maintenance, and no aftermarket leather or rims. The only 2 options I ordered were the door-edge protectors and the floor mats which added about $300 to the base price of $32,760.

    I have found that items like pre-paid maintenance and extended warranties are nothing but profit for the dealers. The actual cost to the dealers is way less than what they charge and the value of the services are often less than what you've paid. This is my 4th Toyota car in the past 16 years. Any major problems or repairs I've ever had was either a) handled during the standard warranty period, or b) was well beyond any extended warranty period that I would've been able to purchase. If you really want the piece of mind that an extended warranty offers, there are other dealers out there that will sell it to you for way cheaper than $2500. You can get a full refund if it has been less than 30 days since you purchased the warranty. Otherwise, it'll be prorated.

    Ultimately what is important is that you are happy with the car and the value that it gives you.

    Danny, the site admin, has a link in his signature to one of the cheapest extended warranties available as well in case you are within your 30 day window and wanted to consider what devprius mentioned...
