What does it do exactly? I thought the air is always circulated, or, taken in through the filter. At least that's the way every other car works.

Where's the Dust/Pollen button? Take a picture if you can.

It is on the AC control panel. Close to the fan blower speed control. The icon looks like a side view of a filter with some crap blowing through it. Manual says it will work for 3 mins each time it is pushed.o_O

it's in the manual. when you're on outside air andyou run into a bad spot (like a diesel truck or smoke or something you don't want to breath), hit the dust pollen button and it will recirculate the interior air thru the cabin filter for a few minutes. i guess interior air doesn't normally go thru the filter.

I'll go out in the garage and have a look at my car :) I wonder if that is the electronic air cleaner our cars are supposed to have? I never thought about it until this thread .

Don't confuse the always on (anytime the fan is running) Plasmacluster ionizer. With the user selectable Dust and Pollen Filter.

The button between the AC & Rear Defrost buttons? I always wondered what that button was for [IMG]

It's the button between the Mode and A/C buttons. It scrubs the interior air for three minutes and then switches back to the presets, It recirculates the air more thoroughly than the recirc button and it alsos turns on the compressor while it's working so the windows don't fog up.

Even in recirculate the system draws a small amount of fresh air . This is to help keep the windshield from fogging, air to breathe and to keep some air circulating for the HV battery cooling. The Dust/Pollen button closes off the external fresh air door completely but only does this for three minutes. It is to clean any dust or pollen from within the cabin. It is good to use, as others have said, to block foul smells momentarily like diesel fumes, etc.

I only used this button once. Last week a really old Cadillac passed me and I forgot to hit the recirculate button but the dust/pollen function cleared out most of the exhaust smell. There's a really smelly lake nearby, next time I'm going to try it out there to see if it filters out the stink of stagnant water.

I noticed my engine started up when I used this function, but that could have also had something to do with the fact that my traction battery was low in charge. Can anyone else with more experience clarify whether the engine needs to be running for this function to work?

    The button looks like this

Seems a lot of things were changed from '11 to '12 even the wiring harness. Does that make our cars a Gen 3.5 [IMG]

What is this ionizer you speak of? It is not documented anywhere. Are you sure they did not remove it for 2012? Does it kill germs if one of the passengers has a cold or flu?

Thanks. Googling it seems to indicate it came standard in Four and Five trims. But there is no mention in the sales materials or the manual. Is this something Toyota secretly removed for 2012? Like the auto park thing in the AT Package for Five. (Not that I care for the auto park thing, but surely would be fun to show, more of a wow factor.

I don't see it listed on Toyota's website. I guess they got rid of it.

The Plasmacluster Ionizer was licensed from Sharper Image and it is totally useless in a vehicle. Not surprised they dont have it anymore, its a waste of space and money. It didnt filter anything. It simply blew ionized air out the drivers side vent for a few minutes. I never noticed any odor reduction, and how would you know if it was reducing the particulates in the cabin air? It is in my 2010 manual.

Correct - there was no perceived value, so it was removed for the 2012MY. Same goes for the water repellent glass on the front driver/passenger windows.
