Just in case anyone is looking at hybrid prices (or car prices in general), this article indicates the price for a new Prius is down $2,500 from June 2011. :D Hope it helps somebody!

New car prices tumble -- even for Toyota Prius

It's going to depend on the car. If you're looking to get into a C-model or a PiP...forget it. You're paying MSRP baby!!!
Oh....they may "knock off $1,000" but forget to exclude the $900 protect-o-package, the $100 Nitrogenated tires, the $99 "doc" fees, or all of the other non-optional options....but in the end, you're still going to be paying top dollar for one of these cars.
The reason that car prices are down, otherwise???
I do not know. Maybe the economy is slowing down?
    Hard to say.

The used car market is still pretty tight according to what I've been reading. So....if you do decide illuminate the "change owner" light, you should REALLY consider selling your old mount before you get the new one. It makes it much easier to get a good deal on the new car, and if you trade in you are almost certainly leaving four figures on the table for the dealer.
    YMMV.

I would expect the total supply of cars to be up from June 2011. If nothing else, from the tsunami. The demand is also likely to be down for the same reason.

actually, a local dealer here is advertising one of thier 7 pips on the lot at $29,999. not as much choice as i had preordering, but a pretty good discount. and looking at thier hycams, running 3-5000. off msrp depending on the model.

I still see strongest deal on Japan cars being Nissan. Nissan is truly giving away Altimas now, in great part because the 2013 is coming out. But even before that, a year ago, the Altima was unbelievably cheap and a superior buy to the camry/accord IMO.

That's a lot of a THC. There was a shortage of them a couple of months ago. Since the hybrid premium is less than that, are the gasoline versions getting discounted like that too?

i don't know, i got a quote because we're looking at hycams. the gas cars are always discounted to some extent but how much right now i can't say. there are a ton of 2012 hycams on the boston area lots right now. 20-30 each dealer? i suppose being a new model it took awhile to fill the lots. i just looked at my quotes again, it's $ 3-4000. sorry!:)

Bisco, make the move, that would be a good deal with that price knock down. My wife is just thrilled with her XLE. I will get to drive it tomorrow, I almost turned in my Prius the day we picked hers up. The Gray Metalflake just rocks in the sun! wow! The only thing that gets my goat, is this Entunes thing. It assumes you have a Smartphone with a unlimited data plan. Some folk can jailbreak a Iphone, most cant. My wife does not even bother with it. She likes the NAV, the seats, she says the ride is really smooth. and she loves the stereo. I set it up for her, HD FM here in LA is actually quite good, and I paid for her XM account (Merry Xmas)! It might be a tough call, options...money. Oh yeah, she really loves the sunroof!
