Desktops are no longer king, but they are not dead either.

Curious what PC members use most to access the net.

I was a notebook user in the late 90's until Win xp came out and went back to desktops until late 2010 got a generic standard notebook. As sexy as ultrabooks are, my computing/upgradeablity needs will probably keep me on notebooks for three years.

And if I get a tablet in a few years, it will have to have ultrabook computing power, I'll add a USB mouse and keyboard. Heck, I add a mouse to my notebook now!

I chose desktop but that's because I game and have an Alienware machine and use that primarily from home while in my lair.

But if I'm in the basement I use my ultrabook and if around the house/yard etc I use my tablet. And if on the go I use my smartphone.

Nice thing about a desktop, I can run 2 - 22" monitors, works much better than a Iphone, but I still love my Iphone! Some things, a bigger stick is better!
    It's just that simple...:D

Those other choices are OK if you don't have a desktop handy.

I'd say iMac 70% of the time, iPhone 19% of the time (almost exclusively when I'm out and quickly need to google something), and iPad 10% (when I don't want to get out of bed yet or when I'm doing some light traveling), and my MacBook Air 1% (when I'm traveling and know I'll have to do "real" work, which fortunately isn't often).

When working from home I use my work laptop with 2 monitors (1 via USB to DVI adapter, 1 via VGA) and a USB hub with a USB mouse and keyboard.

For home use, I use my home laptop.
I also have a Galaxy 4.0 that I use when I want to look something up quickly and my laptop's off.
I'll probably get a tablet. I'm hoping the Vivaldi linux tablet gets going.

I do most of my recreational surfing on my iPhone when on the go or my iPad when I am on the couch. I have a Windows laptop I turn on once per month.

At work I use Windows 7 with dual 24 inch monitors.

I'm more prone to pick up the Pad and sit around surfing (browser or in-app) where ever I want to lounge than I am to sit in one place on the desktop. The phone is the only mobile browser I have. Having said that, there are still certain tasks I can only perform on the desktop so it's needs-based.

i chose smartphone but i have actually thought about this quite a bit and cant say that it is a large percentage. we had a laptop that has died (it was a 2003 Mac) and its really been missed. so down to one functional (one is used for file storage only and a few OLD games...) online computer and 2 smartphones.

but will be getting a laptop/tablet of some sort. the Nexxus 7 might be an option but right now, the smartphone wins by a nose

I think the next breakthru in mobile technology is good voice recognition technology.

you might have to wait that long. Voice recognition in cars has improved 10 fold since my 2010 Prius came out. it is literally like going back to the dark ages compared to what is available today

My primary internet device is a 5 year old Macbook followed by a Asus android tablet. My wife and I haven't had a desktop since 1998. I do have a smartphone but don't have a data plan. I will use it in a pinch but prefer a larger screen.

I love my custom built desktop. It is the central device that ties in all the multimedia in my home as well as my current racing sim rig/work station/art station, etc. Having triple 22" monitors also really helps with productivity. I'll usually have outlook open and locked to one of the side monitors while the other 2 are used for my current task at hand. My desktop easily out-powers anything else I have in terms of processing capabilities, ease of use, and just overall getting stuff done... and this is in addition to having a nice K53E Asus notebook for once I have to take what I have done on the road, an Asus TR-101 transformer tablet, my HTC One S phone, my wife's Samsung SII phone, and my PS3 for entertainment in my living room and my self-built HTPC in my kid's room that keeps Yo Gabba Gabba and Veggie tales running on constant loop. Only thing is that the case that I have, I've had it since probably beginning of high school (close to 15ish years now) and now, the power button is finally starting to call it quits. Antec cases are awesome. I'm probably going to transfer everything into an Antec 100 case soon. Actually having front USB ports is nice to have.
