My Ottonavi experience...

dylanjones37 or anyone with the ottonavi installed, does the gps software have lane assist or junction view like what Garmin GPS has or is this something that would be installed from gpsunderground?

 

got a question for you guys, If I already have the stock back up camera that displays on my rear view mirror, will I still be able to display it on the HU ?

Also, with the JBL, it's just plug and play correct ?

The pink wire that connects to the ground, is that to enable all gps function while driving ?

In trying to answer, I don't think this does has junction view l ike Garmin. I am attaching a pic of what Ottonavi has. On the upper left it shows the next moves and their approximate distances (in this case 200ft move right).

Then on top, there will be a couple of green screens. The left (for right side exits) screen is usually the current freeway we are on and how many lanes it has (in this case, South 101, 3 lanes available to go straight). The right green screen is highlighted because it's the next exit we are going to take. (name of next exit will always be on the right screen and not highlighted if the system doesn't want us to take the next exit).

So this is how I interpret the sample picture. In 200ft I'll exit right on exit "Yerba Buena/Capitol Expway". This exit has 2 lanes and I should drive on the left lane (right green screen shows is highlighted, shows 2 lanes, and only left lane is highlighted).

I'm used to this by now and actually quite like it I think lane information-wise, it's only a tad behind the Garmin, IMHO.

I think you can splice into the feed for the backup cam. Another member on the board was trying to put a cam somewhere in the rear seating so they could keep an eye on their child.

JBL is plug in play, just use the included JBL harness.

Pink wire is so you can view DVD while driving.

Anyone try the wireless transmitter for the camera? I'm sure there'll be some interference, but for $25 if it's not too bad it beats tearing up the entire interior!

I thought abt the wireless cam, but there might be more connections and more chance for the system to go wrong so I just went the safe way and installed the 09Camry cam OttoNavi sold for $25. No problem for the past 4 months.

I called them about that, they said some customers were able to install Garmin maps on their Ottonavi, however, they don't provide it and they can't guarantee that it'll work.

Best is to try checking it out at gpsunderground, some people there might be able to help

what do yo do with your older GPS that you bought before? if I remember correctly that was Rossen right? direct Plus and Play with Prirus 2010 package III JBL system is that correct?

Nope, I had a flyaudio and than I had the stock factory navigation which was in fact faulty, and now Iam going with Ottonavi, however I also bought my pac acessories in case I don't like Ottonavi I will go with the aftermarket ones like Kenwood or Pioneer

Everything works except that there's no voice guidance and no auto rerouting. I already returned it to the seller to get my refund back. Indeed he sold me a faulty unit. I got it checked at Toyota, they say the problem was internal.

ya, the ottonavi is a really good deal right now with free back up camera. I remember paying $600 + for my flyaudio and $1200 for my stock factory nav.

 

Where does the site show the option of Primo vs. what is included with the nav, iGo8

 

It doesn't. You'll have to ask for it in the comments when ordering. It defaults to iGo8 maps but you can request Primo maps as well.

 

Installed my Ottonavi this evening, didn't have a chance to install the backup cam or bluetooth mic today since there wasn't enough daylight out. Will be completing the rest this weekend. So far everything is working great except a couple things. I placed the GPS antenna on side of the HU has the OP did but couldn't get a signal. Will work on this tomorrow after work. USB stick won't read not sure if its the format I have it in. I tried both a 8GB and 4GB both with the same results. Anyone know what format it has to be in? I will be emailing Ottonavi tomorrow morning and see if I can get an answer to it.

For USB stick, use FAT (not FAT32) and see if it works.

For the GPS antenna, some people put it on top of the vents; there's room for that.
It's hidden but still buried too much for my taste.
In my case, I chose to put it inside the upper glove box on the left side; there's a nice notch right there that seems to has been made to fit perfectly the GPS antenna. The reason I like it is because if you are really in the middle of nowhere and you need a better signal, you can always pull out the antenna from the glove box and put it by the window or anywhere.
I found that place very convenient. And not intrusive; there's a hole where you can pass the wire.

Ah and for GPS, if you haven't done so yet, you need to initialize it first; go Settings and make it find the right serial port automtically first.
The first time it takes some time to acquire all the data from the satellites; then it's a lot quicker.

Here's a picture (not my car... not Ottonavi either... but this will work):
