Anyone familiar with the Tom Ogle conspiracy? (he supposedly patented a 100+mpg device)?

Details: Tom Ogle carb. | Fuel-Efficient-Vehicles.org

    Summary:

Back in 1978, Tom Ogle invented a device that replaces the carburetor and could get a 10 mpg 4000 pound car to achieve 100 mpg.

He then died of mysterious circumstances.. there's a conspiracy that an agent of Big Oil murdered him.

Imagine how efficient a Prius could go if it operated one of these..

Yeah, I heard it had to do with the collusion of the Bilderburgs, Freemasons, Illuminati, Skull and Bones,Trilateral Commission (did I leave anyone out?) and was carried out with black helicopters with chemtrails and fluoridated water.

If you want to talk conspiracy... how about the fact that the Patent Office does not require a model to prove oberability except for perpetual motion machines! Absolutely pure prejudice - what are they trying to hide?

The guy in the 1970's that ran his car in Missouri was discussed by a friend a few years ago.

Asked him why it was not built in Europe, Japan, China, or India?

    "Big Oil stopped them!"

Should have told him let's just get out of Iraq and Afghanistan immediately and let Exxon/Mobil run the operation. :D

Based on something very similar I was able to design and build my own fuel vaporization system which to put it quite simply I heated fuel and could run an engine on gasoline vapors. I suppose I could build a miniature version for my lawn mower and make a 1/4 gal of gas last all summer.

The design is legit, and everyone with big ideas who shares them in hopes of profiting will be killed. It's not conspiracy, it's fact.

You threaten the big shots and their investments in oil and watch how fast you become a faded memory.

If it were fact it would be a conspiracy.

I thought of experimenting with fuel vaporization on my mower, but got a reel mower instead.

A poster on another site did install an evaporative wick fuel vaporizer on his mower. It does work. Of course, the first time I read of someone trying it was on a truck, and the person who did it carried a couple of CO2 fire extinguishers with them to handle the occasional fires.

Regardless of how the fuel is vaporized, the reason it works is because it is a way of going into a lean condition. Lean fuel air mixes burn hotter, and can lead to the cylinders burning out. The experimenter with the mower was working on an EGR system to control those temps. Even with the temps controlled, the resulting NOx may still, and likely, be too high for regulations.

The Civic VX from the earlier '90s is lusted after by hypermilers, because its lean mode used one of the leanest fuel mixes in a personal vehicle and returned Prius level fuel economy. It did have higher NOx emissions than other Civic engines. Even back then it wasn't available in Carb states. I don't think any lean mode would pass emission testing now. The conspiracy against this Carb isn't by big oil. It's by the government and the public that wants cleaner air.

You laugh, but the device was bought by the Big Oil Refining Group (The BORG) and they have it is stored in a secret warehouse along with all the 150 mpg carburetors from the 1950s on the far side of the Moon where they are guarded by Storm Troopers from Alpha Centari.

There was also a story about a fat powered car, which again was suppressed by the oil companies.

If someone comes up with an invention to save fuel that actually works, open source it and share it on P2P to make it nearly impossible to suppress. Oh wait, there is plenty of info on aerodynamics and the oil companies aren't even trying to suppress it...

All they have to do is confirm the years of ads that brick-shaped vehicles are manly - aero-shaped vehicles like the Prius are "ghey."

For only $400, this guy took his 92 Civic from 50 to 70 mpg on the highway.

Yeah, many unflattering remarks on the appearance, but one day I'd like to duplicate this on my 2000 Honda Insight with a lot better finish. Keep in mind that improved aerodynamics is a lot of what improves the fuel economy of a 787 Dreamliner along with the carbon fibre.

    I think half of what's done on the aerocivic would be practical on a mainstream production vehicle;
    • completely cover the underside of the vehicle like the VW beetle - only your mechanic will know ;)
    • cover the rear tires
    • have the hood/bonnet go over the windshield wipers
    • smaller side mirrors or replace with video cams
    • if no boatail end, improve the kammback aerodynamics

A reel mower is a great idea, especially for us with such a small yard. I just picked up a free mower that I restored so perhaps I could sell it and get a reel instead.

Absolutely! I mean, after Elon's Musk unveiled the Roadster he was killed... What's that? He is still alive? OK, bad example, when Ghosen came out with the Leaf he... what? He isn't? Oh, never mind.

I am not a believer in conspiracy theories, but considering the advances that are oil free, this conspiracy theory is just plain silly;)

They just let Musk and Ghosen live to throw us off the trail. It's all part of the conspiracy to hide the real conspiracy which is to do away with cold fusion.

The hybrids on the road today in the USA probably make up 0.59% of the total (using 1.5 million as an example). Electric vehicles, significantly less. If fifty thousand oil-free cars are sold but 254,000,000+ others exist that are not, it's not a threat.

Were talking about an invention that the majority of vehicles on the road would / could have used as most of them were still rocking a carburetor at the time.

The only difference today with hybrids and EV's becoming popular is that the investors have stocks in both so they are going to make money no matter what. It's a lot cleaner on the portfolio than a homicide.

That's fading away once everyone starts to realize that hybrids are cool.
Couldn't they use water injection to lower operating temperatures and get a boost in efficiency at the same time?

OIC; you think going with an entirely new concept in automotive transportation has the same ramifications as taking EXISTING automotive technology and making it 1000% more efficient?

Anytime someone brings up the thought of a Big Oil conspiracy, I bring out the SuperCar Initiative. Sam Roe is a writer for the Chicago Tribune. I met with Sam, talked about his three-part special report and he gave me written permission to reformat and distribute it. In his words, people really should know exactly who's controlling what.

There is all this governmental talk about how we need more fuel-efficient vehicles (7 of GWB's 8 SotU Addresses) and yet there is very little done on a broad scale to make them. It wasn't until Toyota proved that consumers would line up to buy them that other manufacturers started acting serious about them. Just think where we would be right now if American manufacturers had taken advantage of the jump start offered to them back in the 90s.
