It was a great drive home. Almost made it on EV.

  2. Another interesting feature that the Pip incorporated is: When sitting in car and listening to the radio (in accessory mode).or some other potential drain) After 20 min or so all power shuts off and a warning comes up telling the driver this is done to protect the battery as it is getting low. This is a perfect time to look at the 12V self check system. In my case it had gotten down to 12.4 Volts. I then pushed power again bringing the car up to ready and then showing a charge of 14.1 Volts. (from the inverter). Another brilliant Toyota move.Perhaps this is what BISCO was alluding to.

  3. That's about as close to perfect as you can get. !!!

20 minutes? More like two minutes. And no warning.

  6. I have done This twice now Kitty, each time I sat between 20 - 30 min before power quit, no warning as you say. Now on the other generations you were warned not to expend your 12v in access mode, the same warning holds true for the PIP. BUT,am amazed that your car is shutting off in only 2 minutes. What are the average shut off times for you other posters when, say, all you are running is the radio in accessory? ( I have never actually timed it )

when I push the start button everything comes on, where the display shows the charging status, the map cycles through it's warning. the radio comes on, then after about 2 minutes ( I haven't really timed it but it's not 20 minutes) the display goes to the miles elapsed and mpg then shuts off.

if the car is plugged in, you can't make it ready. when you push the start button, it shoes you hom much charge you have and then shuts down after a few minutes. it's in the manual.

would be nice to listen to the radio while charging. Since it's plugged in, no drain on the battery. I guess I don't understand the wisdom of Toyota not allowing the use of accessories during the time the pip is plugged in.

The radio is powered by the 12-volt. Using the plug instead would require firing up the hybrid system to convert to DC, a rather wasteful use of electricity. Remember, charging the battery-pack uses totally seperate components.

Avoided the freeway. 28.3 miles on surface streets. 1 hour and 10 minute commute.

The last 6 miles were using HV ICE utilizing P&G. Finished with 762 mpg.

Oh I had assumed you knew about it Bisco, what they did was BRILLIANT! Each and everytime you plug in, the 12V is charging. I think that a 12V problem anymore will be very rare.

    Tho not impossible.

Since the pip is charging the 12volt battery why is there a need to fire up the hybrid system?

Bisco -- okay just so nobody is consumed by the green eyed monster, I will give you guys the honest truth on that part of my voyage. I teach part-time at a college in the foothills of Pasadena. Elevation is about 1300 feet. I live in Long Beach. Elevation at my house is about 20 feet. So it's a steady downhill commute. The trip up I have to use a lot more HV mode, but still get about 80-85 mpg.

I've been utilizing google earth to look at best routes to/from work. I also work from home, so my excursions around Long Beach can be full EV. I get upset when the ICE fires on around here. Have about 900 miles on this tank and I'm hoping for 1000.

There is a charging station on my way home from work. I may stop there one day and sit for an hour to refill my "tank" and do the entire trip home on EV.

I've been trying a technique I read somewhere of putting the temp on LO but turning the AC off and just using fan.

Anyone know if I am wasting my time? Some days when it is terribly hot, I have to turn on the AC as this just blows hot air.

Also forgot to mention I get to charge at both ends -- work & home.

yes, the fan is great upto the low 80's for me. humidity is also a factor and we get a lot of it. i don't use auto for a/c though, i just put the fan on 3-5 bars and hit the a/c button. this is the best a/c i have had of my 3 pri and the car cools down fast. then i shut it off and put the fan on low until i'm uncomfortable. i keep repeating this as i drive. it seems more frugal but who knows, i might be crazy. it's kinda like using cruise or not using cruise. on my 15 mile commute, i usually have around 2 miles ev left when i get home and using the a/c about .5 miles so it seems to eat up about 1.5 miles or 10%. i'll have to try auto sometime and see what happens.

I sweat it out. Haven't used the fan or a/c. My question is, does the ICE come on during your cruises?
