Rear bumper protector

The adhesive strips are totally unforgiving, so get it right the first time. Mine is a bit too far in toward the hatch, but it's stuck for good!

Where did you get the bumper protector. I'm getting a new prius and was told that they only have the clear applique.

Toyota doesn't have a clear applique for the Prius C for the rear bumper.. whoever told you that is stupid.

 

Incorrect answer;

Toyota does offer clear applique paint protection, I have on my C. It came from the factory with this clear paint protection package. The paint protection is installed on all four door edges, all door handle cup areas, the rear bumper area, extremely well done I might add.

The material looks exactly like the XPEL paint protection material I had applied to the front bumper, headlights, hood, both mirrors and lower parking lights.

 

Mine has the clear rear bumper protector also. Can I install the black rubber one over the clear one? I don't see this as a problem, but maybe you guy's know better than me.

 

You probably could, but why? The clear paint protection is transparent and looks cleaner IMHO.

 

I'm planning to do that tomorrow. It just came from the PriusChat shop yesterday. I have the clear down. The black will definitely look better with the black/white car effect. If you do it yourself, be careful on rear hatch clearance. The black rubber is thick and it needs to be back a bit to prevent the hatch door from catching on it. Before you pull off the tape backing, place it and open and close the hatch to make sure you are not hitting it.

 

+1 - Mine came in a couple weeks ago at the dealership. When I went to get it put on the salesman told me he's glad it wasn't the clear one. Said for the rear bumper - the clear doesn't offer as much protection as the black rubber protector. He put it on for me and did an excellent job.

 

The clear cover is just a thick piece of tape and can be gouged pretty easily. The black rubber is much more durable.

 

My dealer did not know about it either, but I described it and gave him the photo from the "Build a Toyota" site, then he was able to locate it and install. He charged extra to put it on because it was not installed at the factory, but that was okay by me.

 

I asked for the Paint Protection film to be installed once it hit port, but I was just under the impression from the dealer it goes on part of the hood and a little on the front fenders.

 

The installer asked me to take a sample piece of the XPEL material and try and poke a hole through it with a key. I could not. Very durable material and I like the transparency. As mentioned I have it installed on two existing vehicles and it works fantastic. Prevents damaged to painted sufaces. to each his own.
