It wasn't his salary (25 mil for three years) that did him in- it was the 30 mil the Knicks would have had to pay as luxury tax in the third year of his contract if he had stayed.
Sucks for us, but then you never know in sports. Let's see how he does over time- I think he'll be 'average"...

Dolan is hated by the fans- that's a given!
But... the Knicks put all their hopes and $$ in Melo' before Lin was ever even a Knick. Lin was a pleasant surprise- but his style doesn't mesh with Melo's type of (selfish- just gimmie the ball and I'll shoot it) play. No way their shipping out Melo' so it was easier and cheaper to just let Lin go. In the end- it's a shame cause I personally don't see Melo's style getting us anywhere other than a first round out again...

True. But Dolan should not have said he felt "betrayed" by Lin. After all, they never gave him a contract to begin with!

Within hours, it became clear that delivering the offer sheet to Knicks general manager Glen Grunwald would be a challenge. Grunwald refused to answer the door to his room at the Mandarin Oriental or come to the front desk to accept the offer sheet. The Rockets sent representatives to Knicks practice and later to their game, but Grunwald did not attend and would not set up a time to meet...

Agreed... When it comes to 'put-up or shut-up' Dolan needs to shut-up now!
Even without the third year $30 million luxury tax- it wasn't a certainty they would re-sign Lin.
We'll see what happens, between the Lin issue with the Knicks and the Tebow craziness with the Jets the NY teams are providing plenty of material for the NY press. Jets camp should be, um.... interesting? this year....
