Please help. Our 2006 (130k miles) Prius showed OBC Code P0A80 (HV Battery Assembly/ECU) along with P3019 and P3020 (Block 9 and10). After clearing the codes, I observed the HV battery changing and discharging - albeit at an accelerated rate – followed by reappearing codes after a few miles. I repeated this test multiple times to confirm the codes. I trailered the car 40 miles to a dealer and drove it off the trailer. When finished the dealer said both the HV battery and HV Module needed replacing. The work order said “No signal from the HV Module”, so we asked for our old module (no sure it is my module). When I questioned how it was possible to have no signal, the service manager said the module would not start the vehicle. When I asked how that was possible since it started fine when I drove it off the trailer, he said he would check with the tech and call back. He called back saying that it did start the vehicle but would not charge the HV battery. When I questioned how that was possible when I had observed the charge/discharge cycles he said they do not replace parts that do not need replacing.

I would like to find someone who would be willing to independently test my module. Toyota is no help. Any thoughts? The extra $700 is less of a concern than the possibility that dealers may be needlessly inflating the price of the HV battery replacement for an amazing car.

This is not a possibility, it is a fact, and it is rampant.

I would like to collectively address this issue with Toyota if anyone is interested.

The only reasonable way to test this ECU "in the field" is to install it within the traction battery case of another Prius and see what happens.
