We Toyota Prius owners will not worry. As the OP said, " It's a Toyota".
You don't know how reliable a Toyota is, man.

Paid 16k for an '08 w/36k miles about 3 weeks ago. Touring, leather, nav, bluetooth, 7k left on the CPO warranty he got when he bought it. Craigslist. He was originally asking 16.5k and he came down to 16k. He said he originally had it at 17k. Hope that helps.

Seems like the going rate for a gen 2 with that mileage (80-90k) here in Austin too. There were and are a bunch right there still on CL here.

The Prius has an excellent record for reliability. The battery is an expensive part and adds more uncertainty, but if you're planning on keeping it for a long time, just add $3,500 to the price and decide whether it's still worth it.

Why are people paying or planning to pay so much for battery replacement? I just was looking at Ebay and there is guy not 100 miles away advertising complete battery and labor for $1,700. Also, why don't other vehicle besides Prius owners put money in savings in the likelihood there drive-train will inevitably fail?

******BUGLY64, Hi & a sincere THANK YOU for posting me back & wishing me well. I hope i didn't offend u when I mistakenly thought there was any sarcasm ?? I'm guilty of being a victim of having dealt w/ a So. Fl. mentality that is negative & sarcastic & more. Hope u understand. Yes, I still pinch myself as my PRIUS motor stops at all lights-Lol- I turn to my wife and remark: "ya know hon, WE r the only car waiting at this lite using NO GAS ! We (America) may have made the bomb...THEY made a better wheel !" What do ya think of that GM ? Bite me !!
    295 miles driven=4 markers(clicks ?) left on the gas gauge. My wife's '06 Vibe's gas lite turns on @290mi !!
    Take care Bugly64, sincerely, DJ

Got mine last night...first hybrid and first Toyota for me. '07 with option package 2. Only 13k miles. Dealer asking $17,200. We finally settled at $15,000 with no BS junk fees, just tax/tags. We looked at several others, but the low miles on this was the deal maker.

I'm in Maryland near the coast. Not sure about the previous driver, but the town where I bought it (from a Chevy-Buick dealer) has a lot of old, wealthy folks who come down for the weekends to their summer homes and yachts on the Chesapeake. Most keep a car here for weekend driving and they get a lot of 4 & 5 year low mileage trades at the dealers.

So enjoy the new 'toy' all of you. You will soon know how reliable a Toyota will be.
And how much gas($) you saved and how fun to drive a Prius. Just pay attention to the 12V battery.
Change a new one when it's more than 4 years even though it still doing good.:)

Whys is this necessary? Do you think my new-to-me 2007 would still need a new battery, seeing as it only has 13k miles on it?

    Hi Joe,
Since the scary suddent showing of all malfunction, warning signs... on the panel which we called it "Christmas Tree" and the car will cease operating . This is mainly caused by the weak mini 12V battery( a weird design) which supplies juice to several ECUs(small computer) in our car. When those ECUs get not enough juice, 'Christmas Tree" will appear and the car cease working. Everyone will panic. But that is just due to a weak 12V battery. Change the factory installed battery every 4 years or change to a Yellow Optimus battery specially made for Pruis will give you a peace of mind for not seeing the Christmas Tree and got shock.
This is just a friendly reminder.
