Carbon fiber, especially if you have the darker gray interior.

This is one of the coolest mods I've seen for the car. Where can I get one? And are they hard to install?

super easy to install, takes 5-10 minutes, read post #8-#9 for DIY installations or the instruction manual that comes with the shifter when it arrives.

I just got these a couple of days ago and, just as planned, only used the two-prong connector. The SMD panel is waaaaay too bright for my tastes. I did a quick comparison of the light output from the twist lock LED I swapped out and the SMD panel in the adapter kit above. Each of the foot well light shots was taken at the same exposure so you can see just how bright the SMD panel is.

I actually didnt have a problem with the original shifter. Why does this have to be so damn cool?

Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated. I've been OK in every other mod thread until this one. Mine is sitting on my kitchen counter, waiting for me to have 10 spare minutes to drop it in.

By the way, did anyone who has already installed this bother to disconnect the battery? That seems like more of a CYA instruction than anything else. I'm used to mucking about with electronics and I know how to guard against static discharge, etc.

I didnt bother disconnecting the battery. I usually dont even think about disconnecting the battery for things that plug in or unplug (with a connector.. unless it involves the steering wheel/airbag).

I didn't bother with that for this mod and haven't done so for any other electrical mod I've made. Yes, it's probably a good CYA for protection against an inadvertent short that lets the smoke out of some sensitive component, and definitely something to consider when futzing around any airbag connection.

I agree with Tracksyde's comment about anything with a connector. Should be pretty low risk.

    new iPad ?

Let me add in that I would strongly advise that if u have any electrical connector in or around the dash that u leave the car off. There was a member here that unplugged a connector under the dash while installing the signal mirrors. He ended up getting a "service hybrid system" wearing that needed to be rest by the dealer.

I had that when I unplugged the HV, EV and PWR buttons. I think it only came on because the system was Ready when I did it. All you have to do to get rid of the warning is unplug the 12v battery and ground the power wire to clear all memory. What sucks is that I lost all of my tracking stats, presets, and trip info. :/

If you unplug the harnesses while the car is off you should be fine.
