    Hi.
I am new here. I am looking at purchasing a Prius. I was on a lot today and drove a 2011. It was on a VW lot and they did not know how to determine the model of trim level. The car has 23k on the odometer. It has what seems like every bell and whistle possible. Sun Roof with Solar Panel, Nav, Backup camera. I liked it but haven't a clue how to value it. The current price is 24,900. Which is more that the new TDI Sportwagen I also looked at. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it has the solar panel, I believe that would be the Prius IV.....

The OP said 2011, so you're right but it's Four, not IV. Roman numeral packages were only for 2010. And there is a possibility it was a three. Did it have leather? If so, it's a four, if cloth three. Now, it could have aftermarket leather so did it have an auto dimming rear view mirror and leather? If so, then it probably a true four.

Thanks. It does have leather. I don't know about the auto dimming mirrors.

Besides the rear view auto dimming mirror, you can also check if it has one door or three door sks. One door is a three, three door is a four.

So if it is a 4 do you think it is a fair starting price?

Quickly, it seems a bit steep to me, but pricing really isn't my thing. Maybe others who were just in the market have a better feel for what they are going for used. It can also depend upon where you live. I know from prices Dianne has given in CA, that they get way more for used Prius out there than where I am even being in NYC.

I thought it might be high (they always are), it is always just a starting place.

Toyota Vehicles : Toyota Announces Prices for 2010 Prius / Toyota has a matrix of models and packages. Ignore the prices, they're old.

The table and matrix applies to '10 and '11 models but since it's old, it doesn't mention USB nor which models/packages have Safety Connect.

And yes, Paradox is correct that the Toyota changed from Roman numerals for '10 to spelling out the words in '11 and beyond.

Well I went back to the dealer with my wife tonight. We drove the Prius again. It is a nice care but I did notice that it it is much noisier than the Jetta or my 12 yo Accord. Not terrible but noticeable. The wheels seem to be allow with some sort of plastic cover? That is odd. Other than that it is in excellent condition. Also maybe it was me but it seemed like the AC wasn't as cold as the non hybrid cars, though it was miserable hot out.

I was able to obtain an Out The Door price of 23500. I told them I would make a decision in the next day or so.

If the A/C doesn't seem cold enough, you're probably not using it right. Try turning it to auto and then adjusting the temperature where you want. The thermostat works like a fancy home A/C thermostat. Turning off eco mode will turn it up a little more but I never had to do that even in Houston on a hot day.

What types of noise? Wind? Engine? Rattles?

Did you note your MPG's while test driving to see if the car will meet your mileage expectations?

The wheels do have a cover over them. Underneath are alloys.

The noise was road noise, not mechanical or Rattle. I didn't have a chance to really watch the mileage but if I decide to buy it before I do I will take it for a long drive. Can you folks think of anything else I should check?

I am curious as to what the noise is. You should compare w/other '10 and '11 Priuses.

Yes, I recall non-17 inch wheel equipped '10-'11 Priuses have alloy wheels w/a plastic wheel cover on top. 2nd gen non-tourings do too, but the design is different.

The noise wasn't terrible. It was just road noise kind of like a lack of sound deadening material. I can understand that in a car made for mileage.

Could partly be the tires. I am surprised though since Hondas aren't exactly known for their low road noise.

You can tell the model years apart by their taillights. The first pic is for both a 2010 & 2011 Prius, the second a 2012.

There will be road noise with the Prius, and you are correct, a lot of it has to do with less sound deadening material relative to other cars.

I agree with the road noise assesment but the car has a lot less other mechanical noises so raod noise seems louder. I recently shared a ride in a friend's 2007 honda hybrid and it was noisier than the prius.
