Can't decide between a C or a regular Prius

    Thanks everyone! I decided upon, and bought a "liftback". Seemed the biggest reason people were buying the "C" was because it was cheaper and smaller. For me, the extra cost for the LB, because it was such a small difference, meant getting a lot more car for only a little more cost. As far as small, I didn't want a car that small. But you know what finally tipped the scale for me? I realized that I wouldn't be able to pack all our beach supplies in the back of the "C"! I am now a happy owner and thrilled with my new ride- the first brand new car I've ever owned! And as I assumed, once bought, the "C" immediately lost most of it's seductiveness. Thanks for all the help!

    Cool first new car. Mine was a 1972 orange VW Beetle, somewhat the Prius of its time. Funny looking car with relatively great mileage.

    You made the right choice, there is not much difference in cost or mileage but a big difference in quality, space and ride.

    I fit 5 dudes in my Prius C last week. We went out for indian food and I thought only 3 guys were coming. It was cramped but it worked for only a 3 mile ride. I think I exceeded the weight limit though...

    Anyway, I am very happy with my decision, BUT, I don't need a lot of space in a car and one of my major deciding factors was the high MPG. It seems that people who need more space in a car are not happy with the C.

    I would strongly encourage you to form your own opinion by looking at and test-driving other cars. The Mazda 3 with Skyactiv offers decent mileage and more space in the hatchback model. There are many options out there.

    I owned a 2010 Prius III. I got OK mileage at 45.95 lifetime average. It has more room than the C, but its biggest problem was that it handled like a pig. The steering was completely dead. Any sharp cornering was met with lots of tire noise and a reluctance to go where you point it. So I think there are reasons to buy a Prius C over the Gen III that go beyond the cost. The Prius C's 31.5 foot turning circle brings back memories of the Gen I Prius which I also owned. It was really slow, but at least it would corner.

    Drove both the Prius and the Prius C. Bought the C because if was more comfortable with the open space between driver and passenger and much more exciting to look at inside and out, and fun to drive. If I had a family, or extra people/cargo to cart around, the regular Prius would probably be a better choice with additional room in the back seat and if you really want more space the new Prius Wagon might be your solution. Drive them all! Why not, that way you will no exactly what works for you.
