Nokya LED Fog Lights

This is the $1000 question................and the answer is.............

 

As promised:

They're shipped in those Nokya box you see at the Nokya USA web site, and only the two lamps are included. No instructions, no tools, no screws; just two lamps. They're heavy duty and the lens are thick glasses:



You mount them with the projectors on facing the ground. The other cavity has another high power LED in it.

As for the LED color, they're bright white with a tiny tiny tinge of blue. Not 6000K "crystal" noticeable blue, not super clear white like 4500K, so I guess 5000K?

I'll post output photos when I get to it, probably tomorrow night. It's a pain in the nice person to swap bulbs and lamps to do a thorough comparison, but I think it'll benefit a lot of Prius owners interested in adding fog lights. I'm late for my happy hour, lol.

As for it being worth the money, that's a subjective question. I see these lamps as an investment in the overall functionality of the car. If you are willing to shell out $400+ on Valenti JDM tail lights vs. eBay $150 knock offs, these are for you. If you want fog lights primarily for looks, you can attain that with Yaris kits for $35+ and install some 7.5 LED bulbs in them. If lighting is your primary concern, you can add HID to the Yaris kits. To me, these are well worth the price. From a head-on view, their brightness envelop the stock halogen projectors. My GF said these lights make the car look more classy/luxurious compared to my previous iterations of setup.

Steve, being that they are a projector, does it have a cutoff? Is it sharp or fuzzy? Would u be able to get a pic when u have time?

 

Sean, if I remember the cut off was fuzzy because of the lights from the upper cavity. Since they are LEDs, their output is still weaker than HIDs.

Here are some more pics. This first pic show a photo of the second LED in the larger cavity:



What the die cast aluminum body looks like. It has no markings, no indication of the lamps being L or R so I had to match up the tabs with my existing lights to make sure. They also do not have adjuster knobs either, as indicated earlier; simply put, they're fixed sealed-beam lamps:



Also forgot to mention that since these are full LEDs, the power wires need to be in correct polarity unlike halogens. That is, power needs to match power for them to light up. You may or may not need to do this, depending on your fog light wire harness. My eBay Yaris harness has the wires reversed:



Nokya or TunersDepot will recommend that you buy an adapter cable for $30+. Simple fix, just remove the pins from the connector and relocate them into the correct position. You can do this with at the fog lamps side or at the wire harness side. I chose the wire harness since it is cheaper than the Nokyas:

Nice. Would these be drop in replacements for the OEM fogs on a 2012 Five? I think the LED fogs would compliment the LED headlights quite well.

 

Yes, simple swap out (except the part where the wires are reversed; see pics above). These will definitely compliment the Five's LED head lamps for sure. They look great and compliment the 2012's LED daytime running lights as it is.

These don't have any bulbs that can be changed.

 

^ probably why it comes with an 18-month warranty.

 

To be honest they should come with a longer warranty since LEDs have a longer lifespan.

 

Damn, still haven't found time to locate a clean wall at night to do a photoshoot with a tripod. I'll tell you this though. The lower projector LEDs function as designed: fog lights that cuts through fog by lighting the lower level of the front bumper without bouncing light back and blinding the driver during FOGGY condition. The upper LED lamp however, act as "secondary headlamps". That is, they illuminate above the stock halogen projector cutoffs but without a clear cut-off. BUT they do NOT glare oncoming traffic. Bright, but no glare. Pictures to follow this week. I'll wait til dark and photograph at my job's parking log if need be for pics, lols.

 

Here's the cutoff for the Nokya's. I realize that the projector had to be oriented UPWARD - not downward as I originally thought, and installed. When the projectors are oriented upward, there's a visible cutoff, albeit fuzzy, but still noticeable. The fuzziness comes from the LED in the larger cavity; tape that off with black vinyl tape and you'll see a clean cut-off. Wall was approximately 20ft away.:

There not that bad. That smaller cavity that has the LED reminds me of the LED headlamps.......they have a similar LED right above the projectors.

Does anyone know if these will fit on the Prius V as well? They look like they do, but does anyone know if both Prius and Prius V share the same fog light assemblies?
