Not sure how you figure that but whatever. I choose to drive in such a way so as to maximize efficiency yet remain as courteous as possible to other drivers and share the road. I really don't care about the image I present by driving a Prius and I'm not going to change my behavior to make Prius owners look better in the eyes of the public. When I choose to drive faster it is because I would rather keep my girlfriend happy than save a little fuel.

The accelerator on my 2011 Prius hatch is the smoothest and with the best input control of any vehicle I've ever driven. I agree with you. This feature is rarely mentioned among owners and yet this is an assist in driveability. It is also an assist to anyone with a leg disability.

It's trivial to get rid of it: Settings -> Signature -> Off.

Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between a Pious Prius driver and a drunk driver. I've witnessed both being pulled over and ticketed for the same driving styles.

Would you entertain the notion that the image you present to others may affect the adoption rate of Hybrids and EVs? Which has more impact on the environment? Your extra 5mpg or ten more 20mpg vehicles being swapped out for 50mpg hybrids?

I'm over it. I am not trying to be an ambassador. I have enough going on in my life that I don't feel like trying to convert people. After 10yrs of effort I've decided to get off the soap box and relax. If people don't like the way I drive they can go F themselves.

Sounds like the drunk I referenced earlier. :)

I can understand taking a break from fighting the fight, but everyone has to evolve, or die trying.

I go in the red a lot and I never get below 52mpg with constant AC in hot AZ.
I like to reach a certain mph quickly so I can glide or hold a certain mph.
Of course I don't do this when there is a lot of traffic and if I know I'm going to miss a light.
Most of the time I go electric to about 8-9mph before I go to the red from a stop sign or red street light if no/light traffic.
About half the time I'm in Normal mode and half the time I use Power mode.

Yup. I find that a lot. I always attribute negative traits to people I disagree with. And then I am proved right when they DO disagree with me, and I conclude that those traits are therefore present.

I actually go into the red zone a lot, in a pulse-and-glide, or getting going on an upgrade. And I get out of it just as fast.

Ideally, for Pulse & Glide, you should be between 1/2 and 3/4 of the Eco section of the HSI bar. That would put you somewhere between 1500-1800 RPM.

What I got from the video is a respect from cars in a crossing zone.... :) Have to admit my road rage moment is with pedestrians that saunter across a cross walk chatting or texting.... In my younger days I was taught you cross as a pedestrian as quickly as possible.

    (1) Don't get overly concerned about going into the red bar zone. That power level is essential in some situations. And unless you are competing for Wayne Gerdes levels, the mpg penalty in the first portion is quite small. Regular drivers should not fear it.
    (2) Shoot back. Oh, sorry, LA doesn't allow you the means to do so.
    (3) Move away from LA.
You don't have it. But the last I heard, hardly any LA residents could get the necessary license either. My area has tons of licensees, and lots more patience than LA.
The 2010's BSFC chart shows that 3000 rpm is still almost within the engine's peak efficiency zone. Even at 4000 rpm it is down only a few percent. Even with some additional loss caused by most of the extra power going through the electrical path of the PSD instead of the mechanical path, this is not enough to worry about, especially for the short time needed to get up to speed.

"Open Carry" is more appropriate in these situations. It works for police and it works for citizens.

I just keep the display off and direct my attention to driving. In terms of fuel mileage, I'm only interested in the long term average, which is of course quite favorable.
