So here I was, minding my own business, on vacation with my husband in Door County, WI. Our 5 month old Prius v 5 ATP parked by our hotel room when I see this older guy examining our car. We come out to say "hello". Immediately, he asks (in rapid succession, I might add):
    1) Do we have our radio set to NPR?
    2) We must be avid cyclists - just bec we had a hitch with a Thule Helium 970XT bike rack on the car.
    3) We must grow our own organic food (really? but we do)
    4) We live in Madison, WI (oh, for sure then!)
    5) We would love to "save the planet for its future citizens" (better us than him he claims)
    6) We probably have Apple computers (not sure I understood this one but yes I am a Mac user)
    7) We like driving under 60 mph (seriously?????)
It's funny how people stereotype you BASED on the car you have chosen to drive. . .
Geez, is it a crime to just want a car with outstanding fuel economy (not to mention that it is one pretty good looking and fun to drive vehicle?). Just wondering how many of you Prius owners out there are stereotyped as well?

I've heard that Prius owners are Yuppies. But when I went to the dealer orientation for new Prius owners in which 50 or people were present, virtually all of them were really old geezers like me. The number of "young" people in the group could be counted on two thumbs.

Sounds like he nailed it, in your case, that is.
    However (comma!) don't despair.....

    My Responses:
    1. Half the time. The other half is set to a talk radio channel.
    2. Only if you mean avid MOTORcyclist.
    3. Uhhhh. No. In these parts we don't call it 'organic'...we call it gardening. "Organic" food comes from places like Whole Foods, where the only hoes that the customer are familiar with usually do not have a blade and a handle.
    4. Nope
    5. Nope. Wrong religion. The planet was here for a looooooooooong time before humans appeared. It will be here for a loooooooong time after we've left the scene. Some people who are trying to "save the planet" are trying to save it in its current human friendly form, which runs somewhat counter to the natural order of change. Others are just control freaks and buzz kills. YMMV.
Me? I grew up with people screaming at me that if we didn't stop driving, we would bring on the next ice age. Then? It was ozone hole from aerosol hygiene products. Then? it was Global Warming. Now? It's climate change.
When "science" gets its feces in one sock, I'll start listening...
    6. No. I have a Harley, so I've already put a check in the "pay too much for a brand name" block on my bucket list. Besides.....I'm smart enough to figure out how to use windows, Linux and droids so I don't need a Mac.
    7. Only when the PSL is <50...and even then I don't "like" it.

    So you see???
There are counter balancing drivers out there, and despite what I’m tempted to think sometimes, I don’t think that it’s a case of 99-percent of the Prius Drivers giving the rest of us a bad rep. People like to put things into neat little categories.
    Drive a Prius? Then you’re a bed-wetting liberal.
Go to church on Sunday? Then you’re a stupid bitter-clinging dolt.
Belong to a Union? Then you’re a Blue Dog Democrat.
Own a handgun? Then you’re a Waskly Webubwican.
The only little problem of course is that people are a little bit too complex to fit into 2, 20, 200 (…) categories.
    So…No.
Not all Prius drivers are Libs or yups. ;)

The Prius is a polarizing car. That’s part of the price you pay for being green, whether it’s the $$$ kind or the bunny hugging kind.
    Deal.

I experience the Prius stereotype but in the other direction. In the past I have owned mostly sports cars and SUVs so when I tell friends or co-workers that I now drive a Prius I get the surprised look and statement "I didnt figure you for a Prius type". The Prius driver stereotype is definitely out there especially since it is the flag bearer for hybrid vehicles but I believe in the future, those not driving a hybrid will be stereotyped in some way or another. When someone finds out I drive a Prius and I start throwing out my average MPG and how much I spend monthly on fuel, stereotypes go away pretty quickly and replaced with more questions about how hybrids actually work. I am pretty surprised by the lack of knowledge out there which I think is part of the reason for the stereotyping since alot of people still think people buying hybrids are doing so because of environmental concerns when in reality most are buying because they're smart enough and frustrated enough with fuel prices.

I bought my Prius because of fuel prices this wagon has half the weekly fuel price of my old minivan. I guess I am reformed minivan driver. I don't fit the stereotype of the Prius driver. I've noticed there are a lot of angry Prius driver's out there some lady honked at me when I had a minivan in the carpool lane at my sons elementary school to move by big nice person minivan. I try to be a happy Prius driver that doesn't judge people. There ya go.

I have two Macs and several versions of the iPod. Switched over to the Amazon Kindle Fire until my sons lost it. Listen to NPR on occasion but not the only thing I listen to. Goes to Whole Foods maybe 2 times a year.

There's nothing wrong with being a liberal or owning a gun. Ran across the angry Prius driving mom when I had my minivan. I try to be a nice Prius driver and not be critical of other drivers.

    Nothing at all.
Some of my best friends own weapons...hate all guns...listen to NPR...listen to Fox...drive Mac products....hate Mac products...aren't into organic anything...are veggies...scoff veggies ride bikes, and can't ride at all.

You can't take this whole life thing too seriously, or you'll wind up being a bitter person who is just looking for an excuse to get their boxers in a bunch over the slightest slight...real or otherwise.

I drive a Prius every day.
If somebody wants to take that one little factoid and presume that I'm a bed-wetting, bowl smoking, bunny hugging, NPR listening, Mac weenie.....well, that's their problem. I had a lady go active on me when I was filling up my dumb old pickemuptruck at a gas and go earlier this year, and I've borne witness to a LOT more hate on this site directed at everything and nothing at all, than I've received in almost two years of driving a Prius in the deep South everyday.
She drove a silver G3, IIRC and from the stickers on her car (indicating home and place of employment) HER carbon throughput is several times that of mine.
IIRC...I pointed to her G3, said that mine is a BWP, smiled, and told her too have a nice day.

Like I said....life is too small run your sweat pumps over the small stuff.
    Believe me....above water?
    It's mostly small stuff! :)

Isn't there some sort of grey area when someone is in your face like that where you can defend your self?
