Just purchased a 2007 w/navigation but it's so outdated it doesn't even show the community I live in. How do I go about updating it and what is appx cost?

Thank you so much all of you for your help! Love Prius Chat.

First, try a Search in Prius Chat to find similar conversations, you may find your answers in any number of places. The search bar is in the upper right.

Second, I recently got have a 2008 Prius, so we're in the same ballpark. I found that the NAV information is actually a DVD reader underneath the driver's seat. So when you "update" the stock Nav at the Dealers, they simply swap out your old DVD for the newest compatible model The dealership is where most threads here recommend you do this - I haven't seen anywhere other than a Toyota dealer than will do this DVD update for you.

There are some wrinkles here. I don't think I know all of them, this is just what I've gleaned.
    • Only certain "numbers" are compatible with certain generations of Prius, or something along those lines. The dealer will provide the correct updated DVD. If your Prius has not been updated, your NAV DVD is probably at something like 7.1. I believe the most recent version is something like 11.1
    • If you are able to find another solution, such as an ebay DVD to update yourself (which is possible, I was considering one), you need to make sure that it will be compatible with your 2007 Gen II. I'm not sure how this is done.
    • If you DO want to buy an updated DVD on eBay or elsewhere, you need to find out what your version number currently is, as well (I also don't know how to do this short of ejecting the DVD from the reader under the driver's side seat).
    • Some or many of the "hacks" you can do, such as overriding the Nav lockout are removed with updated DVDs. (If you haven't already noticed, the Prius locks you out from inputting locations while you are driving. There are "hacks" you can do to allow you to temporarily override these lockouts)
    Good luck, hope this helps!
