Not sure, but you would need a dealer level TIS to register new key fobs in a car that has none. Otherwise, it looks pretty complete.

Seems like a good deal to me. There's no point in trying to make a product that interfaces with the CAN, KWP and does quasi-Techstream stuff if already exists. Seems to me the only difference is that you need a laptop to work with the mini vci. Is there really a market for a standalone version (no laptop required) that has some type of user interface where it can be used on a daily basis for driving? I'm thinking no and I'm thinking of ordering the mini vci myself. For $30, you can't beat it.

I'm still going to finish the CAN device for my car but I see no point in trying to market it now.

What seems to be missing, and I haven't looked hard, is a device that can be plugged in and left in place that logs the data for several months and can be downloaded to a pc for analysis. the download could be via an SD memory card, or through a wifi connection.

a configuration file stored on the SD card could drive what PIDs are logged as well as provide information like where to send the log files when a wifi connection is active. a log file for each "trip" would be great, a trip being the vehicle was turned on. Perhaps an easy way to get the wifi functionality would be to just use a Eye-Fi card and have the device emulate a digital camera, snapping a "photo" for each trip.

the device could also provide a gui, via the wifi/usb if connected, as html5 served by a embedded http server. the gui could provide configuration as well as drive time monitoring with a tablet, smartphone, or laptop browser as a client.

the "car chip" is the only thing I have found that logs the data, but it has a fixed set of PIDs it will record and you have to disconnect it from the vehicle and connect it via usb to download the data to a pc. it does provide some audible alerts for things like hard braking.

what I am interested in is long-term comparative monitoring. i.e. for the 20 mile drive I make 200 times a year, how is my fuel consumption compare, HV battery cycles compare, warm up times, catalytic converter temperatures, battery module voltages, 12V battery voltages, etc ...

The Techstream provides the DTCs and the inf codes. All other code readers, including Auto Enginuity to my knowledge do not provide inf codes. These codes make troubleshooting much simpler.
