way above my pay grade, lol (pay grade=knowledge of above links)

I'm selling the extra data logger because I thought I could measure the current on both sides of the charging brick, that would involve stripping the charging brick cable into three separate wires which would void the warranty.

Supco LOGiT LCV Current & Voltage Data Logger | eBay

Here is my set up, as you can see, you need to separate the "hot" and "neutral" wires and clamp the current transducer on the "hot" wire (red) I used a a/c plug for the voltage measurements (I cut the alligator clips off the voltage test leads and wired the leads directly to the a/c plug S1190001.JPG S1190002.JPG

ok, here's the latest: as you can see by only having one clamp on current transducer connected this time, the amperage is now closer to my Kill A Watt amperage of 11.79 amps. PIP charger status 8-31-2012.JPG

Here is my Excel document of the charger voltage and current readings from my Supco Data Logger ("ahem" text file)

wow, that is quite a setup PK. You REALLY need your own garage for that contraption!

Interesting data. Looks to be about 8-10V of sag in your 110V lead? Are any of your connectors/wires getting warm during the charge? Is that from empty to full pack?

I still wonder how one of these PHEVs would charge off of a limited power solar array. My array would put out 11A no problem, until a cloud passes over!

Good to know there are some other data hounds out there.
    thx.

If what I think you're referencing to is the voltage drop while 11 amps is drawn is the fact that all of the parking lights are on the same circuit. And no, the wires do not exhibit any warmth (the wires are 12awg which can handle 1275 watts max) The PIP EV remaining before the charge was 5.0 miles. Also the PIP charger drops amperage to 5.1 amps during the last ten minutes of charging. I also noticed the same phenomenon while observing the ChargePoint station display when I was at Consumers Power.

Are there any Excel nerds out there that can tell me how to calculate Wattage (E*I=W) into the columns in my spreadsheet? I can figure out how to do one row at a time, but I know there's a way to generate all of columns B and C (amps, Voltage) into column E (Wattage) (because column D is the time of the samples)

if you do it in one row, you can then copy that formula into every other cell in colum E, e.g. if in row 4 you would enter
+b4*c4 into cell E4. (can do it via point and click as well) Then you just select sell e4, copy, select either column E (click the E letter at the top of the cell), or just drag a large region of cells in E (e.g. to match all the data you have) and paste.

I tried that, all I got was B4*C4 in every cell from E4 to E6333, I need to have each "E" cell to have B*C from 4 to 6333

Here's what I did so far one by one, it will take me forever to enter all 6333 cells. I need a shortcut.

The idea is to copy the fomula to the other cells.. by maybe you were not even using formulas (I cannot tell since you saved it as a txt file. If you click on cell E4 it should be a formula that looks like
    "=+C4*B4"

To add more data you just copy a cell with the fomula (e.g. select E4, right click, select copy. Then left click and drag to select more rows (say e5 to e6333), then right click and paste.

I've made the fomulas and copied it to all of the filled in cells for you.. but I cannot seem to uplaod excel files here anymore so I put it at

Might be worth noting your formula is for instantaneous watts (a measure of power), not kWh (a measure of energy)

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I know it's instantaneous watts, now I need a formula to take all the 1 second samples of wattage and sum it up into KWH, can that be done?

The formula I used was B4*C4 I didn't have the = sign or the + sign

in the cell for kWh enter a formula like
+SUM(E4:E6333)/1000/60/60 (I presume your data is sampling every second).

I realized that you probably want to do this on a regualr basis.. so copying the formula is not as easy.. a simpler way is to have a formula like
    =+SUMPRODUCT(B:B,C:C)/1000/60/60

    (more more generally

    =+SUMPRODUCT('8-31-2012'!B:B,'8-31-2012'!C:C)/1000/60/60)
where '8-31-2012' is the name of the particular tab.

sumproduct is a more powerful and to some people confusing function, but it does just what you want if all you want is kWh.. it takes the elements of B and C, takes their pairwise product and sums it up. since I said B:B. it does all of B no matter how many or few, rows you add.

Best to keep your results on one page and the data on others..

I updated the sheet to look with that and reuploaded to my server.
You can than load new days of data as separate sheets then copy/edit the fomula on the "results" page to use the names of the new tabs

No problem.. the = just says it is a formula (otherwise it might be considered text) and the + is just me being me in entering fomulas. (I don't even think much when I do this anymore.. its habit to enter + if I mean the positive and - if I mean the negative of a cell).

Thank you again! the kwh looks right since I already had 5.0 miles of EV left before I started the charging session.

Can Excel convert this data into a graph? like this one? PIP charger status 8-31-2012.JPG

I just finished figuring out how to copy and paste in excel ( the B4*C4 formula and the KWH formula) yay! once a minute is good. I probably will do it every time I charge my PIP. when the weather gets cold, that will be another matter, probably wont do it then. Is there a formula for doing graphs? if so, then yes do them. try an example first to see if I get it.

Oh yeah......can the graph be of current, voltage and wattage in three different colors?:D

I updated the link. I put two graphs.. since all of volts, amps and watts are in different units they each need their own axis.

I added some more compex formulas (using a function called indirect subsample). See if you can figure out how to make your own from what I uploaded.

I did one without subsampling.. there are some higher frequency spikes in the data so if you are looking for that you may want to plot the raw data to investigate.

For those that don't have Excel. Here is a screenshot of what drinnovation and I are working on FOR THOSE THAT DONT HAVE EXCEL.JPG

Still trying to figure out how to make the charts. Haven't figured out the formula's yet (how to enter them)

THere is not really a formula.. but if you right click on the chart you can then choose "select data" and change the where the data is.

To create a chart you can select the data and insert chart, ut then you have to do more to make a second axis show up (select the data, then select format -> data series, axis, click second axis).

Notice in the charts the drops in wattage and current, and the spike in voltage, this happened eight times during the charging cycle
