I want to get rid of my 11 year-old CRT tube Televison, but as it is still working I don't want to give it to the city for recycling.

Any ideas about charities or places that would make good use of such a CRT tube?

    Thanks!

Yes, I edited it in the OP to make it clearer.

The only problem is the NTSC tuner that make it useless. Cable may work on it, but you need cable. I just placed my old TV's in the front yard on the curb the day before trash day, I got home, they were gone. I don't care who got them, they are gone!
Face it, it's old technology, it's lifespan is doomed!

No, that doesn't make it useless. It can still take input from composite, s-video and possibly component in. For OTA broadcasts, one needs a converter box (The Digital TV Transition: What You Need to Know About DTV). I personally know someone w/two of those.

My parents still only have a standard def 27" TV w/which they use DirecTV (via a DirecTivo).

I am not aware of any demand for old CRT's.
Here we have Electric Sunday's you can deliver your old electronics to munipal recycling once a month.
The other option is BestBuy but you pay 10 bucks (and get 10 bucks store credit) I think.
So far I took two CRT TV to the Electric Sunday....maybe one more on the way when I finally get a HDTV.
Not to mention old computer CRT's.
