For Sale tricked out Generation II "box beam" torque flex mid-chassis brace

As requested by a number of Generation II Prius owners.

Not just a thicker and heavier plate with a few "lightening" grooves and a thin easily scratched "flash" anodize. Mine does NOT more than double the weight.

Aa continuing inprovement of my original "box beam" brace and based on the 2012 "improved" OEM Toyota supplied brace, I have improved this brace to provide a "stiffer" anti-bending flex modulus for the "folding" action phenomenon exhibited by the two long exhaust system bottom rails.

Toyota made theirs from five pieces and seven welds. Mine uses the "helical torsion" method the the Wright Brothers invented for the control surfaces of the wings of their bi-planes. The later called this "wing warping." It allows the brace to be very stiff to bending forces, while allowing very little resistance to twisting forces that can damage the mounting points of the brace on the rails. Weighing in it at a mere 14.5 ounces, it weighs just a half ounce more than the old OEM thin brace and achieve three times more bending stiffness than the NEW OEM brace. Still, it doubles the stiffness of the OEM brace found on the newest Prius models.

The brace is custom made with a smooth "brushed" -finished" and coated with a clear "baked on" clear polyester of the type used to coat custom aluminum wheels. It can be used "as is" or can be painted with any color that the purchaser desires.

The brace will be supplied with my new find of "super-quality" 10.9 grade 150,800 psi tensile flat smooth flange surface J.I.S. standard mounting bolts. These are much better than the "rounded" washer 8.8 grade 125,000 psi OEM supplied bolts. Both have the same small 12mm hex head, not the ODD 13mm head on most DIN metric bolts available. Mine are the same as Toyota's, only stronger.

Forget stainless steel. It should NEVER be used with aluminum as it promotes "electrolytic" corrosion. They are also "weaker" than the OEM bolts and have only 103,000 psi tensile strength.

I want you to check it out, as I had, when I was disappointed with my OEM brace on my new 2012 Prius"v."

I research the original BT Tech Gen II plate, the one offered by juicedhybrid.com and the one offered on eBay as the G7.

I was disappointed with the design and implementation of each. They were just "thicker" and "heavier" versions of the Gen II OEM brace. I haven't calculated it, but adding an extra 1-1/2 pounds that you'll be carrying around for a couple of hundred thousand miles will eventually cost you.

More expensive, but the auto industry has routinely subsituted aluminum for steel to reduce weight.

Toyota just didn't make a thicker and heavier brace. The spent a lot of bucks making numerous dies and a lot of welding, because they found it absolutley necessary to reduce the torque resistance of their brace. That, I did by strategically designing it into the structure.

Just search "chassis brace" in the Priuschat forums and you'll get many positive commenters who are using my "box bean" braces.

 

Basically, I have taken the Gen III brace to the "top of the food chain." After three months of development with haours an hours of research and trial, I have made just a very small number of these Gen II braces. I have not released them for others to get them, until I am absolutley sure that it installs easy and does exactly what I want it to do, and morre importantly, what it will do for you.

I have, also built a very very small number of Prius"c" braces. They are nearly all gone.

 

Nearly every Generation II brace that came before is nothing but a thicker and heavier plate. Just notice the large holes or "slots" on the OEM brace and ALL that come before mine.

Mine achieves stiffness by its very "engineering design," and it it flexible to twisting, where it needs to be.

And, just look at how precise and better spaced the holes on mine is.
