Yes I noticed the spikes in the raw data. Not sure if what is causing them. If I. but they are long enough its not just a skipped data. If I had to guess I'd say the unit is stopping charging to check voltages then resumes.

Also it is natural that when a circuit drops the load (i.e. amps go near 0), the voltage will spike back up. Also you voltage is a tad low, suggesting your line may have added loads on it and/or poor connections in the outlets.

the voltage drop was the same when I had the Kill A Watt connected, so I don't think my jury rigged cable is bad. But there is several sodium vapor lights in the parking lot on the same circuit. Maintenance told me it's on a 30 amp breaker. The drops are evenly spaced out, suggesting maybe the charger in the PIP is doing a controlled drop in current?

    Yes,
Yes, its possible the PiP is doing it, which is what I was suggesting.

Are the lights on? It is also possible the lamp are going on/off causing a voltage spike which causes he PiP to respond, reset and the restart charging process? Could test that idea if you charged during the day (when hopefully he lights are off.. if nto write to your city as they are wasting power).

Yeah....funny you should mention that.....the light directly above the outlet goes out (still on, but very dim) when the current drops. Possibly a side effect of the PIP charger? All the other lights in the parking lot are not affected. The parking lot belongs to Clawson Manor, a senior living center. ( 15 story building) Owned by a Methodist Church. and rent controlled by HUD

BTW the orange light on the PIP charger door remains lit during the "outage"

I just had an Idea. I will go to Consumers Energy down the street and try the logger on their 110 volt outlet. only thing though, there's only one outlet so I won't be able to check voltage output.

not possible to charge during the day because the outlet I'm using is connected to the parking light circuit, no power unless lights are on, so......moot point, taping the photocell will allow me to charge during the day.

Looks like the PIP charger is indeed stopping charging to check battery levels then resumes.

The good news is Clawson Manor (where I live) is replacing the parking lights with lower wattage bulbs (possibly LED's) so the voltage drop on the outlet won't be as dramatic. :D

ok, here's the latest, had a completely depleted battery. EV=.1 mile. So I connected the Kill A Watt meter in series with the Supco Logger. Here's the results. Total charge time was 2 hours and 34 minutes PIP charger status 9-6-2012.JPG

Interesting.. can see your voltage varying (104 up to 106) so you local like is under a good bit of stress at that time of day. Also interesting with the current drop demand for the last bit (final fill of the batteries) but that it does not happen right after one of the "spikes"

those "spikes" are approximately 4 seconds of zero current ( the graph is squashed into 9318 seconds of data)

Yes I looked at the raw data earlier.. my comment was because I was thinking the spikes were so the car could better estimate the actual charge in the battery (its hard to get a good read while charging). Thus i expected the "finall fill", where they reduce current to charge more slowly as the balance cells/charge would occur right after one of those "spikes".

Maybe this explains it better PIP charger status 9-6-2012. WITH DROPS IN CURRENT AND WATTAGE.JPG
