Just my EV only trips.....I was able to change my main route to a slightly longer route(approx 14-15 miles) but its a slower MPH road with less traffic then my main route which was all 45-55mph and 13miles long.

Its pretty much all flat around these parts..but taking the slower route i can make seriously better EV range then when i go 45mph. So now im down closer to 35mph or so to get 14miles EV. I have done 17.1 miles EV but that was an experiment going really slow, approx 25mph max! Hard to do for the whole trip without pissing people off..lol

For the most part my ICE has not started in a week or so, since i took a longer trip over 15miles. Gotta love it. I should go well over 1000 miles on this first tank. I am at 117mpg on the screen now with 1 full block still showing in fuel gauge, not blinking yet.

I was driving the first 5.4 miles yesterday at 35mph, then today I checked Google Maps for my itinerary, 7.2 miles. EV miles was at 7.3. after doing the trip at 35mph. Google Maps in my case was pretty accurate.

ok, I think I figured it out. When I was charging at Consumers Power I traveled home from there, the speed limit for 1 mile is 40mph. The rest of the way home, 1 mile too, at 35mph. which explains why my EV was 10.9 and not 11.9. When I charge at home then travel to work it's 1.0 mile at 35mph, then 1 mile 40mph, then .7 mile at 35mph. I gained 1.0 mile EV because I'm not going that extra mile at 40mph. DUH!

I find that you need to utilize the EV when you can use it optimally. It lasts longest in city, stop and go when speeds are 35 and under. When i use a combo of EV and HV in this manner It helps alot with EV range. Or simply take some very slow easy drives with no people around you and you can get upwards of 17+.....several of these drives will add EV RANGE to your "morning estimate".

    Im into the 14s now....

Yeah, instead of taking 14 mile road I could take a side street 1 block south of 14 mile road ( the speed limit is 25mph) Next time I go to work I'll try it, stay tuned!

^ that is same thing i do now....I go a few different ways that are slower MPH, and possibly alittle longer and will take more time but typically im in no hurry...so the days im not in any hurry i take the slow way and the EV trip can really go far. I find if I can keep the HSI in the bottom say 10-20% you can easily do 15miles, even without any regen. Its when you have the HSI around 40-50% alot that your range seems to drop down alot maybe to around 10-12miles.

^ LOL....I hate when my ICE starts!

My last block on my first tank since i bought it on aug 11th just started blinking today at 957 miles on ODO. I got car with 71 miles on it, and my trip B is now at 903(my lifetime since i bought it) I want to get my trip B to 1000 miles exactly before i fill tank. LOL But i have some longer drives the next few days so ill be using some ICE..GRRRR. I want to get that 1000 trip B though!

Im now at 974 ODO....block blinking for approx 17miles so far.

lol, u might make it! I'll b rootin for ya! You know what's pathetic? On my way back from Subway (when ICE kicked in) my avg. mpg for 1 mile traveled was 43mpg! Yeah, Yeah, I know, some ppl would give their eyeteeth for those mpg's lol

Yeah I hear ya......I just sold my VW GTI which I loved, but when i was getting 32mpg I was soooo happy with that, cause my Dodge ram truck only gets 12mpg avrg!

But now when i get in my new Plug-in I am spoiled and used to getting 100mpg always, and hate to see the ICE kick on and watch the instant MPG drop to middle of gauge around 40-50mpg.....lol

I had been searching NON PiP threads, and see most seemed to say the Distance to empty would say 20miles when last block starts to blink. Mine was lower at about 5-10 i believe. I know our PiPs have smaller fuel tanks then others, so I wonder if the gauge is same gauge meaning everything is slightly less in our PiPs. So instead of 2Gals left when it starts to blink I think we have less.

Im alittle nervous so I might fill it today. lol

How far has anyone gone once last block started blinking on a PiP? (All HV obviously)

I read some NON PiPs going over 100 additional miles once blinking.... But i think there is less then 2 gals left with our PiPs since tank is smaller. Hard to say for sure.

I guess the blinking Gauge does not do anything else right? I wish it would blink less and less(slower) as it ran lower, then eventually stopped blinking at all(disappeared) which would mean its down to like basically nothing, only a mile or two left! I know they cannot be that accurate though.lol

I guess the whole idea is to fill up when it starts to blink. I still had about 10 miles to empty when it started blinking. which i think is less then NON PiPs have reported.

When my last bar blink, I went another 50 miles before fill and I still have more than a gallon left in the car.

The specs shows pip has a 10.6 gallon tank, same size as the non pip

Quick side question from a non pip owner...

When does the ICE kick on to warm up? Is it when your EV range is down to 0 or is it at some point before that?

    Thanks!

It will kick on when you put foot to floor(getting HSI into RED/POWER zone)

It will kick on if you call for HEAT

It will kick on when you run out of EV power

There might be other times it kicks on but so far these are what i know of....
