I posted this in the newbie forum, but only got one response, so I thought I'd try here...

I am in the Northwest, and in the market to purchase a Prius soon. I am looking at MY 2010-2012. A few weeks ago, I got a dealer quote on a "weekend deal" that was $22,800 on a 2. (I was not ready to purchase a car at that time, and wonder if I could have gotten the price lower.) I just sold my boat, and will be able to buy my new Prius!
Anyway, the prices on used Prii are so all over the place, and I have a quote from a dealer in Idaho that has a 2011 II with under 20K miles for sale. I emailed for a quote and they came back with $21,975. I think that price is too high, considering the quote I got on the new one, and it's not even a certified used car because it isn't being sold by a Toyota dealer. What do you all think? Am I being too unrealistic, or is the dealer, for thinking they can sell a used car for almost the price of a new one?
    Thanks for your input!

The smaller the gap becomes the more it makes sense to just buy new.

Thanks! That's what I've been thinking. Do you know when the 2013's roll out? I could get a deal on a 2012.

I think that is too high considering what a new 2012 Prius Two can be had for at Dianne's Southern CA deals for all things Prius LIFTBACK & PHEV Liftbacks | PriusChat.

The '12 Prius model Two also comes with way more stuff than the '11 did. See Exclusive: 2012 MY Prius - Changes and Additions | PriusChat (note about backup camera is wrong).

On the '11 Prius Two, you didn't get a touchscreen, USB port nor any Bluetooth support. You had to go to model Three for Bluetooth. You had to get nav to get USB, BT music streaming (aka A2DP streaming) and a touchscreen.

If I were closer to So Cal and Dianne, I'd buy from her in a heartbeat. The drive from LA to Spokane is a loooong three days...done that drive too many times already.

She would have to deliver to you out of the state of California or you would be liable for the California Sales Tax. Shipping is possible but I doubt there would be any savings. FYI in March 2011 I bought my 11 pkg2 for 21100 before taxes in Southern Cal, prices here are about 1000 more at this time. The 22800 doesn't sound bad, but it's not my money, good luck.

I thought you pay the tax to the state in which you register the vehicle. People here in ny buy in nj all the time and they don't pay the tax until registered in ny. Maybe it's just some funky ca law I'm unaware of?

Yeah, I have no idea. If OP will bringing in a new car from another state, she should also check WA State Licensing: Vehicle Registration about any issues doing that. CA has some funky stuff about bringing in cars from other states, if they're too new, IIRC.

Generally, you pay the tax in the state in which you register.

Look, make them an offer. I was offered a 2010 with 18k for 19995.00, and that was before haggling. So, go to work! There are a lot of cars around, and you can have one shipped for in the area of 600, depending on how far. Check it out! Vehicles are sent all over the country every day.

Yes it is a funky California law you are unaware of, but that''s ok I'm probably unaware of some strange New York taxes.
Diane W. at Carson Toyota has to deal with that alot when out of state people wanted to buy cars from her, check it out.
