Objections of little weight and minor consequence since the Prius was advertised and marketed the entire year and specifically to compete with Volt. Competing manufacturers often announce competing products to try and freeze sales of the competition as they launch their own competitive product.

And sales availability was for 60% of total US population and 90% where hybrid sales currently are concentrated.

lol, I guess if all you want to say is "Volt is da best" and respond with "lalalala" to any sort of criticism, then cool.

If you only offer cars in certain states, is it any wonder sales are concentrated in those states?

I talked with Diane Whitmire about buying a PiP, if I came to CA to drive it home, I had to pay CA sales tax, then MS sales tax. If I was willing to buy one sight unseen, she could ship it for $750 and I would only pay MS sales tax.

I chose to buy a Prius v I could look at before purchase. I need a lot of cargo room, and I have no idea if the PiP has as much underfloor as I want.

Is that so? I always thought if buying a car in another state, but registering in your home state, you only paid the state it was first registered? Or you could get the sold in states sales tax refunded or use as a deduction at least.

California has major sales tax rules. Many states don't let you cross a state line just to save sales tax on a car. California collects both ways.

I wonder if you can get the california $1500, then take the car out of state.

You usually pay sales tax to the state you're registering the car in. I'd check with both states before I paid sales tax twice.

Current hybrid sales, 90% of which are concentrated in the same or adjacent states so it becomes a distinction with no real marketing difference.

    Camry are through august ytd
    280,536 units with
30,587 hybrids. This represents a 11% take rate, much higher sales for the new camry, and a much higher percentage for the hybrid.

Are you trying to say that GM is outselling Toyota?

I cant even begin to understand the logic here... Toyota will build 1,200,000 hybrids this year... GM will build 30k Volts and 50k mild hybrids that are awful.

GM doubled their numbers from 40k to 80k... Toyota doubled their numbers from 600k to 1.2m.

To even suggest for a second that Volt is doing good, while its production is idled and while it will sell half of its projected numbers..............................................

You got to lay off the crack pipe. He is talking about US hybrid and plug-in sales. Toyota has the lion's share of the hybrid market, and has slightly increased sales while losing market share in the US. GM was not selling many hybrids at all two years ago and have greatly increased both volume and market share. GM is now number 2, pushing ahead of ford and honda. Ford looks like it may ralley, but honda seems dead in the water.

If you want to start a thread about world wide auto sales, you should do it. I have not seen any good data yet, only a bunch of bragging. Can you point to the world wide hybrid sales? If toyota is selling 1.2M hybrids this year, the US probably has stopped being such an important market.

I cannot answer where proximal sun is going.
Note the data here is us, not worldwide.

Where di you get GM doubling from 40k to 60K
My point in the thread was the signficant change in GM.. in 2010 they did 6500 total hybrids. They are at 36K already.. and by year end will likely hit 60K, so a 10X increase.
The Volt alone is already at 2x the 2010 total hybrid sales, and will end the year way ahead of where they were (even if you discount the mild hybrids).

Where did you get the 1.2mill estiamte? Even worldwide I cannot find that much.
    Here is historial data

40k out of that 60k comes from forcing customers into their horrible mild hybrids. And 20k from Volt. I have yet to read anything positive anywhere about their mild hybrid system.

As to Toyota hybrid sales, based on sales data, I suggested earlier this year here that they will sell more than 1,000,000... it proved correct.

    spwolf,

Clearly as mentioned this is a thread about US sales. I'm sure your brain thinks world wide sales for toyota should be used to compare to US sales of other manufacturers, but for most of this, that is simply wrong. I know you like to be wrong, and be wrong loudly, so good for you. You have done it again.

But as I said you can start a new thread about world wide sales. Now does that link, prove that toyota has sold 1M hybrids. Well no, it says they are planning to. We need sales figures to show they have. We have those, and they may get there. I hope they do. But they have not yet. You have proved that you can't tell the difference between a forecast and actual sales.

Are the PIPs really selling? The dealers around me are swimming in them. Right now Toyota's doing 0% interest plus $2000 back on them.

They were not selling as well as expected, which is why they are being discounted. They are not available in most of the country. I'm sure toyota will find a price to sell the quantity that they want to sell.

Rather than use "discounted" we should probably look at the previous price as a "premium" for the early adopters and this new price as something closer to the standard selling price. I may be totally wrong, again, but I think we want to get away from disparaging a vehicle every time the price is reduced and potential market expanded.

Fair enough. I don't think the phv is selling badly since the dealer incentives started, but I was surprised at the initial price. Toyota is realigning the pricing.
