Oh, woe is me! I just noticed yesterday that someone put a tiny "scrape" on the right rear passenger door. At first glance, it looks like a smear of mud or something, but it doesn't wash off. The scrape is maybe half to three-quarters of an inch long and about a quarter of an inch wide. Most folks probably wouldn't even notice it, but now that I know it is there I feel like I can see it from a mile away!

Does Toyota have a touch-up kit for the C colors yet? Is that something I should try to do myself, or would there be a color/finish mis-match?

What color is your C? A lot of the colors are standard toyota colors used on most of their models, some of the more exotic colors ( habanero / moonglow ) may not be as common. My C is the grey, which is the same color that my liftback was. I colormatched the C emblems with the same can of spray that I used to CM my liftback emblems.

Mine is Blue Streak, which looks an awful lot like the Speedway Blue of our old Corolla, but not quite. It's the "metallic" bit that worries me the most. I don't want a patch of plain ol' blue marring the metallic finish.

I feel your pain! I found my first hairline scratch (really fine) on The Cheetoh two days ago. Habanero of course. I'll ask about options when I hit my 5,000 mark but living in the city, I knew it wouldn't be too long before something happened. Thank goodness it wasn't a major Costco parking lot assault which happened my first month in Seattle in my other car (I swear someone rammed a cart with 300 pounds of stuff into my rear quarter panel). I can't bring myself to go to Costco yet lol.

I was thinking of just sticking a bandaid on it ;-)

You should give Toyota a call, that color is used on other vehicles as well. They give the colors different names sometimes, but it is the same paint code. Although the band-aid would be pretty awesome!

I sure didn't get one but I'll be asking. I got one with my Chevy metro ... So you got one included (always good to have info like that so I can tell my dealer that people elsewhere get them....then they can call Toyota on it).

Eta...I looked at your photo after...hahahahaha....but I did get it with the metro. Would be nice to have a little bottle of habanero!

I'm in Australia obviously but these little tins are standard here - I've got one for my c, Mum got one with her 2007 Corolla and my previous car, a 2003 Corolla that I bought second-hand also had it.

Well actually I just Googled for it (original page here)... easier than going to all the effort of photographing the one in my car downstairs. :)

Well, shoot, this is my fourth new Toyota, and just about everyone in my family buys Toyotas, but none of us have ever gotten a can of touch-up paint with our new cars. You have to go to the service department and order/buy a tiny tube of touch-up. Harumph. Will definitely ask my dealer about it when it comes time to have the 5,000 mile check-up (just barely rolled over 1800, so that's gonna be a while).

Question... if I go the bandaid route (even if just as joke and only long enough to take a photo), should I use a standard looking bandaid or go for one of the cartoon ones?

If, as it sounds, that's standard practice in Australia and not here in the states, you probably won't have much luck. Not that it hurts to try, but I wouldn't get my hopes up for free paint. "But I know a guy in Australia" probably won't make a difference to the dealership :)

You're making me sulk again. The only time I got free touch up paint - I went in buy some for one of our cars (years ago). Salesman saw me and asked me: "What's up?" I told him and he went in back and came back with touch-paint - said he couldn't see me paying good money for such a small, tiny little tube of paint.

I think we deserve some consolations for the extra money we pay (and it's not like our cars actually have to come much further from Japan than yours - if it isn't in fact closer).

I've also remembered that my mother's 1996 Camry that we bought new also came with touch up paint, but if I remember correctly that was either in pen form or something similar. I actually thought that was easier than a small tin of paint.

The first thing you should check is if the blemish has actually penetrated the paint to the extent that it cannot be polished out. If you run your fingernail over the area does it feel like a substantial deal or not?

Sometines a blemish like this is just a paint transfer from another vehicle's door and is just on the surface of your paint. Find a fine polish compound and give it a try. You may be pleasantly surprised.

This is quite true... my old Corolla had some marks I was carrying around for years. When I started thinking about trading it in and/or selling it and actually gave it more attention, I was actually able to rub off what I had thought were scratches.

If you can get your hands on touch up paint use use that. I work in retail so my old Honda fit was beat up pretty bad. When's to a "ca" zone. Got the touch up paint, used it, rock it, and ways told by Toyota my car was in " pristine " shape. Which shocked me but played it cool.

I used a buff pad on it too and after I could barely tell anything was off. If I had not know there was anything to look for I'd probity never see it.

Also wish now that I did not do such a good job on it. Ever time I see a black fit sport I wounded if its my old car lol.

I took a closer look today, and it is definitely a scrape which can be felt. It almost looks as though it were attacked by a tiny piece of sandpaper. It isn't showing metal, not that deep, but the finish and dark blue are off so that it is a small, blue-ish white mark. I don't think it will buff out, probably does need touch-up or a bandaid... or I just have to stop looking at that side of the car, lol.
