The 2010 model that I have already has the EV button in the center console next to the ECO and PWR buttons. Don't think you need a chip. Also the linked video shows the EV button on the gen 2 model no chipping.

Oh ok. I must have misunderstood the purpose. I thought this was to extend the EV mode speed restriction. I use EV mode in certain instances but HATE that it cuts off at 25mph. I could easily navigate my neighborhood at the 34mph mentioned in the link.

If you pull up the CHG - ECO- PWR bargraph I found that I can run in all electric mode (100 MPG) over 25mph as long as I keep the bargraph in the lower half.

There is also some talk on this forum about using Error codes (out of fuel) to allow the vehicle to run in all electric mode no matter what mph you are driving.

This is the screen I always keep up. It does not seem to do that for me. Usually when I drive I try to keep it on the lower half (battery side) as much as possible, but it still kicks me off at 25mph.

The add-on you referenced is for the Gen II cars. I put one on my now defunct 2008. You initiate the EV mode by holding the cruise control button in for a few seconds. The Gen III's do not need it as they have the EV button as cited above.
