I noticed the 2010/2011 Prius Fives used H11 for fogs, which are 55W bulbs, same as the non-LED low beam.

Moving on to 2012, they switched to H16, which are 35W bulbs.

Does anyone know why the power drop? I have noticed my fog lights are useless cosmetic toys only, and do not hold a candle to the already excellent LEDs.

Were the older H11 fogs any more useful?

A new search seems to indicate these are H16 19W bulbs. Wow they are weak and no wonder they do not do much.

Still curious if the old H11 setup were any better.

Do you have halogen or LED headlights?

Halogen headlights, halogen hi-beam and halogen anti-fog. No DRLs.
Hi-beam is ok, headlights could be better but I can live/drive with them, anti-fog are useless but nice decoration.

I have noticed in EU models fog lights are a lot more common than in the US. Is it a regutory mandate there or is it really foggy there? In the US, the fogs are wired to only come on with low beams, further making them more useless, is that true in the EU too?

Last time I drove in fog was last week... with anti-fog off. First time for 4 years...

You can use fog lights on a curvy road (with signs on the road) during the light to increase visibility.
The are foggy areas, especially in mountains where anti-fog lights may help but I live far away from mountains so that it's not a problem for me.
I don't think it's a regulatory requirement (rear red anti-fog is required and should be used when visiblity is below 50 meters) but every country in EU may have a bit different regulations.

Generally speaking car versions are set up the way that basic trims don't have fog lights. But if you go with a higher trims fog lights appear along with chrome parts around windows (on higher priced sedans/wagoons) and other visual improvements. It often goes in par with alloy rims.

Cars from smallest segments (A and B - Toyota Aygo, Toyota Yaris) don't have anti-fogs (front) at all. For Yaris (we don't have Yaris sedan) you can buy anti-fogs as a part of visual style kit.
For C segment like Auris and Corolla fog-lights appear from mid-level trip.
Prius and Avensis have anti-fogs from the lowest trim.
Lexus CT200h on the lowest trim (eco-version) have 15" alloys and no anti-fogs. Every higher trim have anti-fogs.

I would say that it's a part of visual styling and EU clients just like it.
