I tend to minimize the whiz bang stuff, perhaps a bad habit from owning cars all the way to the grave. It's the gadgets that seem to fail well before the end of life of the vehicle itself.

My 97 Toyota suv's power antenna, power seats, cd player, etc ... no longer work, but the drive train seems like it could go another 250K miles.

My 80 Toyota diesel suv doesn't have any whiz bangs, still running after one clutch rebuild.

And there is always something perfect (everything is perfect until it exists) trying to convince you to wait. Better is the enemy of good enough.

I tend to maximize it. Vanilla/chocolate but hybrids tend to be "whiz bang" products by definition.

Stuff like DRL's, auto/headlights, auto/mirrors, blindspot warning systems are whiz bank safety features.

    True enough...an AWD/Hybrid/Plug-in/Diesel Volvo V60 is PERFECT!!!

Now if Volvo will just start importing, I'd jump my mileage from 50 to 125....sweet!

True but at 129 mpg on the car, I'd be around 200 gallons of gasoline a year and buying only US oil. I would have gotten the Volt had the local electrician gotten to me earlier and told me about rigging up a charging line to the street.
